This conference will focus on war, peace, culture and consciousness, the interface of the personal with the political. It will be an opportunity to attend workshops with internationally-recognized speakers and trainers and explore cutting edge approaches to understanding the psychological, emotional and spiritual effects of war, violence, and other social problems of our time. A rich program of talks and workshops will delve into the inter-connectedness of social and personal well-being and explore creative action that can improve individual and collective lives. Some examples of workshop presenters and themes include:
* Viet Nam combat veteran Larry Winters, author of The Making and Unmaking of a Marine, will expand on the personal consequences of war on our soldiers’ and our own being, and implications for society;
* Attorneys associated with Trial Lawyers Colleges from various parts of the country will explore the role of the death penalty in society as well as its impact on social and personal roles;
* Kate Kirk, editor of the British Journal of Psychodrama will present “The Living Newspaper: Alternative Reportage On War,” an experiential technique found to increase the ability to internalize and make meaning of news and information;
* Rick Lee, PhD, former Executive Producer for Public Broadcasting of Boston will teach about the use of improvisational theatre for social healing;
* Action methods for treatment of addiction and trauma;

The conference is open to the general community and of particular interest to mental health professionals, educators, community organizers, activists, and lawyers. Continuing education credits will be granted.
