You will notice that I don't have any shows booked at the moment. I promise I'm not being lazy though - I am working hard in my little basement suite in Vancouver writing and recording my album at the moment. I'm pretty pleased with how it's going, and I look forward to sharing some of the results soon. As a bit of a teaser you can check out my new song 'THE STORM' above... Much love!
TRUTH YOU KNOW EP - REVIEW
"Reminiscent of Bonnie Prince Billie and Judee Sill, Wellington-based Tim Beals and his sister Holly Beals' release Truth You Know EP, is a stellar recording of four folk-inspired songs which tell of the things we must let go, and the ongoing yearning to distill experience, feeling and memory into words, substance and form that will mean something to some other open (or closed) hearted one. The harmonies of the Tim-Holly duo lilt through spacious rhythms and comforting folk-riffs and are at once uplifting. Compelling as verse, the lyrics could stand alone as Cohen-like stanzas for solitary reading. Echoing the sentiments of the serenity prayer in the song 'Truth You Know', the duo urge we "Reproach then relent, resign to accept what cannot be changed." It is this line which exemplifies I think, the EPs overall effect; an honest, humble and almost pious sound that I would best like to describe as folk-lullabies or personal hymns." ****
