InfluencesFrom The Ashes are influenced by movements in music rather than specific artists. Despite the broad spectrum of the members' muiscal tastes, they find common ground in progressive rock, psychedelic electronica, cinematic instrumentation and all genres where melody is the primary focus.
Sounds Like

"Very confident in their ability to deliver their brand of semi improvised music. They have a structure to the songs but the players have the ability and confidence play solos and drive the music in many directions.

Using the old whisper to a scream, they lull you with a dreamy start before belting it out. The songs are well worked out, with each player having space to play their part. They allow each other to take the spotlight and not muddy the waters with overplaying. The vocals are very emotive.

I never liked prog rock when it was first out, but the current movement appeals more.

Do I need to revisit the past or go forward to the new sound? Forward ho."

Thanks to Neil Wedd from the Indie Initiative for the kind words.

   About From The Ashes
The History:

From The Ashes formed in Melbourne in late 2005. Mike (drums) and Jiz (guitar) had been writing tunes together for several years when they were contacted by Hank, an ex-Adelaide singer, who was searching for a project with a fresh musical direction. Their mutual love of unique bands, including The Mars Volta, Radiohead, Queens Of The Stone Age and legendary rock acts such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Elvis Costello, combined with their desire to create a unique & original sound, led them to form an instant bond which has evolved into an explosive & prolific songwriting partnership. After exhaustive months of searching Melbourne for a bass player, they finally found one in the form of Lachie, who has added his distinctive tone and melodic sensibilities to perfectly complement the band's style.

With a wealth of live experience (members' previous incarnations include Bugdust (Vic), 7zark7 (Qld), Mothdust (SA) & Ground (Vic) respectively), the members have played alongside the likes of The Tea Party, Grinspoon, Regurgitator, Pre-Shrunk, Front End Loader, You Am I, Shihad, Magic Dirt, Skunkhour & Frankenbok, in all corners of Australia at ungodly hours of the day & night.

The Sound:

From The Ashes is the hybrid of an incredibly diverse set of influences. Each member contributes his own musical flavour to create a unique blend of textured, hi-fidelity, progressive rock. Lurking just below the surface of the cracking guitars, intense melodic vocals and pounding rhythm section are lush orchestral arrangements and swirling electronica, which elevate the music beyond old-fashioned rock n' roll. However, despite this focus on multi-layered composition, the songs retain a melodic sensibility which make them accessible to a broad audience.

The Goal:

In addition to its pub rock roots and various fleeting fashion-rock obessesions, Australia's music scene possesses new, original artistic talent which can hold a candle to any international recording artist. From The Ashes are single-minded about creating music which entrances live audiences and enraptures listeners.

Sons of Abraham

Jul 14 2008 5:22 AM

Over two nights, Sons of Abraham will launch their Debut EP The Pushing Foreword at The Ding Dong Lounge (Thursday, 24th July) and Ruby’s Lounge (Friday, 1st August). Recorded with Reggie Bowman at Scream Louder Studios, The Pushing Foreword is a culmination of SOA’s journey so far. From the rehearsal room, to a year and a half of gigs around Melbourne, The Pushing Foreword is heavy, melodic and above all honest. What you hear on the CD is what you get live. These launches will signify the end of one chapter and the beginning of another for SOA. But most importantly, these events are about sharing this transition with as many people as possible.
