I've always wondered when the day will come when a nurse tries to draw my blood and finds a string of letters instead. Metaphors in the place of red blood cells, similes floating in the plasma. I write. It is the only thing that I am sure of in this world. Well, there may be a few other things...
For example, I'm sure that a sunset is better after you've forgotten how beautiful the simple things are. That low budget horror movies are the easiest way to make me smile, especially when there's a cup of chocolate milk involved. Bathtubs are made for sleeping and kitchen sinks are made to rest on when you're talking on the phone. Mashed potatoes are the single greatest form of comfort in food. Friends are the ones who stick around after they find out how crazy you truly are. And one of the most important lessons I've ever learned is the difference between being alive and living.
Every day I decide which of those last two I will partake in.
Today, I decided to live. :)
