Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ashley’s interest in country music was sparked early by listening to great artists such as Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. She was also inspired by Shania Twain and Brad Paisley, prompting her to enroll in Belmont University’s famed Music Business program where she majored in business administration, audio production and studied classical piano. Ashley’s debut album was recorded at Hilltop Studios and released in 2004 to critical and international success.
Back in Winnipeg she became a member of the Manitoba Country Music Association, competed in their songwriters’ competitions, performed at songwriters’ nights and in Nashville has performed at The Boardwalk Cafe, The Broken Spoke, The Gibson Bluegrass Showcase & The Bluebird Café. She has also seen her songs gain radio airplay in Canada, the U.S. and overseas, leading to many successful promotional tours and performances.
Her first widely released single “Living In Misery” gained the top spot on the European country charts and led to her winning the 2005 European CMA Favorite Female Vocalist of the Year award. The accompanying music video received play on CMT Canada and the Country Music Channel of Australia. She again topped the ECMA charts in 2006 with her last single “A Letter” and began earnest work writing and recording her sophomore album.
Always, though, the heart of her music lies with the rich storytelling genre of country music combined with the pulsating rhythms of bluegrass. Her gently powerful soprano voice eases you along and portrays a soulfulness beyond her years. Ashley’s favorite instruments to play are the piano, guitar and dobro but she also has picked up the banjo. Ashley is excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. She graduated from Belmont University in December 2006 and is currently readying her second album for release in 2008.
I hate Chicago, and no I'm not doing much music. I'm showing apartments just to make enough money to put food on the table. The record label is taking their good sweet old time. How are you?
3 days ago I added a new uptempto country song we've written called 'Honky Tonk Romeo'. If you haven't heard it already, I hope you can stop by and have a listen. If you know a country recording artist that is looking for new songs, please let them know about my myspace page. We are shopping all of the songs on this myspace page 'Country Songs For You'. Raine
Thanks for adding me! I am a songwriter and the songs on my page are songs that I have written or co-written that I/we are shopping to country singers who are looking for fresh songs for their next CD. I recently put up a new track called ‘Country Kisses’. So if you, or someone you know may be interested in recording any of the songs on my page, please contact me to discuss!
HELP PUT THE STANLEY BROTHERS IN THE COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME!
Ralph Stanley has received many well-deserved honors in the last few years, yet one honor eludes him. While many of their fellow musicians and singers have been recognized by The Country Music Hall of Fame, THE STANLEY BROTHERS have been sadly -- some say criminally -- overlooked.
Jeanie Stanley, youngest daugher of Carter, and fan Kaye Hill have organized an on-going petition to change all that.
"The Country Music Hall of Fame recognizes those persons who have made a significant contribution to the country music field," says Hill. "The Stanley Brothers helped lay the foundation for what we have today. Their names deserve to be listed among greats like Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs, who have already be recognized."
You can join their efforts in one of the following ways:
Contact the CMHoF directly:
Mr. Kyle Young, President
Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum
222 Fifth Avenue South
Nashville TN 37203
Or, if you prefer, you can send a letter to Kaye Hill, who will forward them to the HoF.
D. Kaye Hill
PO Box 2553

Kay says, "a simple one-line note is all that would be required, but please remember to supply your name and address, and an email address if applicable. I will be collecting all letters and forwarding them to the Country Music Hall of Fame."
