Born and bred in London, I was fed a strange mix of classical music, rock, and Cliff Richard. At the age of 6 I started playing the recorder - I didn't like nursery rhymes or Greensleaves so I never progressed. At the age of 11 I wanted to learn cello but was told I couldn't by my school. At the age of 12 I started learning piano - I still didn't like nursery rhymes and Greensleaves so I didn't progress.
At the age of 14 I found an old classical guitar that belonged to my Dad in a cupboard under the stairs. It only had one string. I played it 6 hours a day and thought that I had invented the Blues scale. My parents couldn't take much more of hearing the same 5 notes over and over again and so bought me an acoustic. I still played 6hrs a day, teaching myself with guitar magazines and learning from more experienced friends. That way I was able to persuade them to buy me an electric guitar by convincing them that I could play it through headphones and they wouldn't hear a thing. They made the mistake of buying me an amp too.
Around this time I was invited to join the legendary Baha'i band, Smiley Inside, after their bass player suddenly went of in a strop minutes before a gig and was later found sleeping in a doorway. I learned a set of 6 songs in 30 minutes in a toilet in Daventry and saved the day.
By this time I was a bedroom rock god, impeded only by the fact that I couldn't have sex, couldn't do drugs or alcohol, go to parties, have a girlfriend, smoke, swear, or watch TV past 9pm. But that didn't matter because it was all about the music.
I was taught the Jedi art of twiddley guitar and moingey doodoo juice by the Master himself, Na'im Cortazzi.
Eventually Smiley Inside split and members of the band joined with the lead singer of Sandshrine (Payam Beint) to become the first Baha'i supergroup, Sabzi. Many band practices occured in the basement of St. Thomas' Hospital, many pizzas consumed (mostly by Payam) and three spectacular performances. The first and third being spectacularly good, the second being spectacularly bad at the Arts Academy in Sidcot. Coldplay's manager liked our stuff and wanted to see us play live at which point we split up and most of us did proper jobs. Ah well, no band is complete without those 'could-have-been' stories...
Now in between saving lives and changing nappies I have the occasional noodle in my own musical world.
Please enjoy my little noodles above, the first of which, 'Angels Call' was written in one day, layed down in one take, mixed and mastered in one hour, by one man with one mic. Hence it's a little bit rough around the edges but I like it because of that.
The second, 'Secret Scenes' was written by an old friend Rod Rastan
Hey! How's the weather over there? I just want to let you know that i'm coming to the UK in late May/early June to play bass with Kevin Montgomery and Tommy Allsup. Tommy played guitar with Buddy Holly, and is THE guy that flipped the coin with Ritchie Valens. I figured that with you being a musician that you would really be able to appreciate this show. Kevin made a little video at my studio last week while we were recording....check it out http://myspacetv. com/index. cfm?fuseaction=vids. individual&videoid=34589518
There are a series of shows in England and Scotland....dates are on my myspace.
We won't be doing my material, but it is a really special show, and Tommy is a true rock'n'roll legend.
Anyway, take care and hope to see you there.

Dr Ashley Rezza is a clever little fella,
with his music and his graphics and his special doctor magic,
but have you seen the fashion of how slow he eats his rations,
he will chew and chew and chew until the food all turns to goo.
