Providing culturally sensitive and language appropriate HIV and other related health services to Asians & Pacific Islanders (APIs) and their partners, family members, friends, and service providers in the Philadelphia area.
AIDS Services In Asian Communities (ASIAC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing culturally sensitive and language appropriate HIV-related services to Asians and Pacific Islanders and their partners, friends, family members, and service providers in the Philadelphia area.
In June of 1995, a diverse group of Asians and Pacific Islanders organized in response to early indicators that the AIDS epidemic was at its earliest stages within Philadelphia's Asian and Pacific Islander communities. They also organized in response to:
the lack of targeted services to populations most impacted by HIV infection -- men who have sex with men
critical service gaps in the health and social service system, and the need for leadership through advocacy and community organizing efforts around the AIDS crisis as it impacts Asian and Pacific Islander communities.
The organization is a recognized authority on HIV/AIDS issues in Asian & Pacific Islander communities demonstrated by our professional expertise, research, community organizing efforts, participation in policy & planning activities, advocacy activities, and track record for quality services.
We believe in being a resource, serving as an advocate, outreaching, empowering, and assisting 1) Asians & Pacific Islanders at-risk for HIV infection, 2) those living with HIV/AIDS, and 3) their friends, partners, family members, and service providers to meet their needs and improve access to services. Delivered by a trained professional staff, our services are confidential and provided free of charge regardless of residency or immigration status. Current programs include:
Project ASSIST: Asian Specialized Services In Support and Treatment: Provides assistance and services to API's living with HIV/AIDS and their care givers; such services include client advocacy, case management, counseling, support, education, and information and referral to medical, legal, social and community services.
Education/Outreach: Information and education about HIV/AIDS through community outreach, participating in community events, distributing information in nine languages, and more. Professional trainings are also offered.
