The Asian Prisoner Support Committee (APSC) works with Asian Prisoners to educate the broader community about the growing number of Asians in the U.S. being imprisoned, detained and deported. We seek to expose the root causes of why more and more Asians are going to prison, such as the crisis of our educational system, the lack of access to resources for low-income immigrants, and war and imperialism. The first print run of "Other: An Asian and Pacific Islander Prisoners' Anthology" has sold out! Due to the success of the first printing, we have printed a second independent run in higher bulk and "Other" is now available for $15. Contributions of higher $ are still encouraged to mail copies of the book to all contributors as well as other prisoners. Overall net proceeds generated from the sale of the book will go towards disaster relief aid and prisoner support work.
"Other" is a book project that was led by Eddy Zheng, who was recently released from prison and immigration detention after over two decades behind bars. This anthology of work by Asian and Pacific Islander (API) prisoners is the first book to highlight the unique stories and perspectives of this growing prisoner population in the U.S. In total, 22 talented writers, poets, and artists have contributed to this anthology, covering topics such as the factors that led to their incarceration, the cruelty that occurs in prisons and immigration detention jails, and the harsh reality of deportation that awaits many API prisoners. "Other" includes a preface by Helen Zia. The book is co-edited by Ben Wang, designed by Joy Liu, RevoluXinDesigns.com, and is a project of the Asian Prisoner Support Committee (APSC).
