Asia Today was formed in the summer of 2007 and is based in London/Berlin. We are: Andy Moss (UK), Simon Fujiwara (UK/JAP) and Ingar Dragset (NO). Andy plays guitars and analog synths. Simon plays analog synths, keyboards, violin and cello. Ingar plays analog synths and percussion. We also use drum machines and we all sing live. We have both a musical and artistic background: Ingar and Simon are working in the Visual Arts as well, and Ingar is part of art duo 'Elmgreen & Dragset'. Andy has been making music as a solo artist for a number of years and was part of the pop duo 'Andy & Mari'. Initially, we were friends before forming a band based on our shared love of music and song writing. Our debut concert was performed at BASSO Club, London and other shows included the Hudson Theatre, New York, KunstWerke and Hilton/NBI, Berlin. We’re currently writing new songs, have just put out a demo, and are having a number of European gigs in 2009.
Hi and thanks for the friendship! Here’s a video from our most recent tour, in March-April. In an attempt to merge traditions of improvisation in Vietnamese and contemporary Western culture, this is a performance of Tu Dai Oán, a traditional Vietnamese song. In this performance with Thanh Thuy (playing the dan tranh), Stefan Östersjö (playing 10-string guitar) and Henrik Frisk (laptop), this traditional tune is overlapped with free improvisation with electronics. The performance is from a Scandinavian tour in spring 2009 with The Six Tones, a Swedish/Vietnamese project merging traditional and experimental music. The video was recorded at Atalante in Gothenburg by Niklas Rydén. Stay in touch, all best!/The Six Tones

...filigree and athmospheric electrosounds, combined with the charismatic vocals of the singer Nic Koray, all in all creating an extraordinarily melancholic and thought-provoking music having no equal...
