Linda Merrell

Bio:

Linda Merrell is a phenomenal jazz singer who fills the heart of the listener with divine joy and ecstatic wisdom. From a very young age, Linda has been deeply involved with music. As early as the first grade, she began singing on stage for school productions and special events. She soon became an active member of her church and school choir, as well as performing in many local plays, musicals and school concerts. Linda has performed in Los Angeles, New York City and Chicago. After performing in small venues around the Reno / Tahoe area, she moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, to continue her music with the gifted arranger and talented pianist, Tom Johnson and was honored to sing with the great jazz pianist, Donald Brown and Sax legend Lance Owens. She returned to Reno where she performed with some of the most professional and talented local musicians, being a featured performer at many popular Northern Nevada Jazz venues that included EJ’s Jazz Cafe, Adele's, Plan:b, The Hacienda, and Stew’s Brewery, The Plaza, 4 Pints, The Gold Hill Hotel, Piper's Opera House, Thunder Canyon, The Sierra Arts Foundation, as well as public and private venues throughout the North West. Linda has been a leader for live music in the Reno performing arts community, a Vice President of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) local 368 and also created and hosted the popular Jazz Jam sessions at the 3rd Street Blues night club. Not only does she have a strong stage presence, she is also a talented ballroom dancer. Her music passions are jazz, standards, ballads, blues, caberet, but also include contemporary and soft rock. Linda Merrell, is truly “A Singer With Style”.

The Blue Jasmine group features local jazz legends Linda Merrell (vocals), Peter Supersano (piano), Rocky Taterelli (sax), Phil Jerome(bass and trombone) and Chuck Hughs (drums), who are all well known throughout the jazz community from New York City to the West Coast. These artist have come together to create one of the best jazz groups in Northern Nevada, performing classic jazz from the 1920s, 30s, and 40's.

Nevada Appeal article dated August 4, 2011: The Gold Hill Hotel is on an entertainment roll this month with two musical performances this weekend of “Those Were the Days — Jazz At Its Best.” Jazz At Its Best features the Blue Jasmine group recreating the classic jazz of the 1930s, '40, and '50s, plus a tribute to Rosemary Clooney. Performances are 7-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Great Room of the Gold Hill Hotel. The Blue Jasmine group features local jazz legends Linda Merrell (vocals), Peter Supersano (piano), Rocky Taterelli (sax) and Phil Jerome (bass and trombone). The show also adds the talents of Perry Marshall Arnn, Suzanne Crawford, and John Schafer. The gourmet dinner and show option are $45 per person plus tip and tax; or $15 for the show only. Seating is limited and by reservation only.

Linda Merrell and Blue Jasmine are perfect for large or small venues, and their style of music can be tailored for any occasion. Personnel include the core quartet of lead vocalist, piano, bass and saxophone, and Linda can add or subtract from there. Drums, trumpet, flute, percussion and guitar are also available. The ensemble plays traditional jazz, ballads, contemporary, soft blues and standards that make for a truly unique sound and entertaining evening.
