Linda Merrell was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She moved with her family to Los Angeles, California at the age of 10.
From a young age Linda has been deeply involved with music. As early as the first grade, she began singing on stage for school productions and special events. She soon became an active member of her church and school choir, as well as performing in many local plays, musicals and school concerts.
Finishing her education and wanting to learn more, Linda set her sights on musical theater and at age 19, she moved to New York City where she auditioned and performed in some off off Broadway productions and studied stage movement with Paul Curtis at the American Mime Theater.
Setting her performing career aside to raise her children, Linda later returned to her passion for the arts. After performing in small venues around the Reno/Tahoe area, she moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, to continue her music with the gifted arranger and talented pianist, Tom Johnson. While studying in Knoxville Linda was honored to sing with the great jazz pianist, Donald Brown and sax legend Lance Owens. She moved back to Reno and began to perform with some of the most professional and talented local musicians, being a featured performer at many popular Northern Nevada Jazz venues that include EJ’s Jazz Cafe, The Sierra Arts Foundation, as well as public and private venues throughout the North West.
Linda has been a leader for live music in the Reno performing arts community, a Vice President of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) local 368 and also created and hosted the popular Jazz Jam Sessions at the 3rd Street Blues night club.
Linda temporarily relocated to the beautiful island of Maui, where she met many wonderfull musicians.
Her music passions are jazz, standards, ballads, blues, but also include contemporary and soft rock. She loves to sing a good song.
Though gifted with a powerful broadway voice, Linda has developed a softer chanteuse style of singing. Her deep, smooth, sultry voice takes you back to the day of singers like Judy Garland and Sarah Vaughn.
