STOP PRESS!! It's been 4 years since the last one....... Askew and Avis are now preparing for the launch of their brand new album, Tomorrow Today.
It will feature 14 superb newly-composed tracks produced by the extraordinary Emmy-nominated, Peter Dale.
For the next few weeks we will be putting examples of the mixes up and would greatly appreciate your comments and feedback (goto www.askewandavis.com to leave feedback).
We are very excited at the quality and downright tunefulness of what we have recorded.
A new website will follow in the next couple of months. Do sign-up meantime to our mailing list to find out the release date, where to get a copy and how you can come and see us live.
It promises to be a really exciting year for us!
In the album we have extended our line-up to include two outstanding new instrumentalists: Sura Susso and Robin Whitnell.
For the first time we combine our trademark live-looping and vocal experimentation with a grooving live rhythm section of African percussion and electric bass.
Sura Susso, comes from a celebrated family of Mandinka Griots from the Gambia. He brings both a wide-variety of percussion instruments (calabash, congas, djembe and talking drum) as well as the sounds of the West-African kora.
Robin Whitnell made his mark playing bass on the Manchester scene in the 90’s. He brings his unique style of bass playing, both lyrical and funky, to the mix.
Together with these two outstanding players we have recorded , a new set of songs with strong melodies and lush vocal harmonies. These songs take our live-looping and voice processing a whole stage further: powerful, multi-layered vocal tracks powered by a dynamic and danceable new rhythm section.
Sura’s virtuoso kora playing lends other songs on the album a heart-melting poignancy. Its evocative sounds and polyrhythmic patterns combine with the unique singing quality of Robin’s bass to give a the new tracks a rich and sonorous texture.
With Tomorrow Today we think we have created a true fusion of our wide-ranging abilities: danceable, lyrical, emotive, music that takes you on a journey, takes you places.
Music for head, heart and body: travelling music for life on the move.
