When Steve Leaf met Chris Dorman he thought he was the weirdest due he had ever met. He was like , "Who is this guy talking about his feelings and saying weird stuff on the microphone?" When Chris Dorman first heard Steve Leaf's album with his old band Auditory Sensation he thought it was really good and should be entered in a Dave Mathews Band sound alike competition...years later Steve has tried countless new sounds (although still holding onto his love for dave respectively) and Chris Dorman is still weird and the closer friends they become the more innovative and unique their sound becomes. Together they have broken down genre barriers and created something very much their own....their passion is what drives them towards their goals and their dreams are being lived out everyday. With the release of thier first full length album in August they have begun to tour around the midwest. They are inspired by other bands such as Dispatch to grassroots it all over the world.
I was blown away by you guys. I can't even wrap my head around the culmination of two years of amazing times with A Story Told in one room last night. So many folks taked to us about the evolution of the music and friendships, and it got me thinking about it as I lay awake in bed late. This is just in it's infancy. "What comes next?", is a very exciting question to ask of ourselves. When people come together with positive intentions and respect towards eachother and themselves as a whole living, breathing, rocking being the potential for "amazingingness" is absolutley unlimited. I am certain that every person in the room last night had everything to do with the show going great. There is no line dividing us. It is vulnerable and scary and everything i could have ever asked for in my life. This kind of courage to open your ears, minds, and hearts seems like second nature in a musical environment, but it is my wish for us all to allow that to trancend to "unusual" places , wherever that may be for you. For me, it is at a wedding with a bunch of my relatives who think I am weird. That is where I wanna learn how to rock out. Thank you all for saving the world. Keep it up. Love, chris
It's Official! I'll be playing one Michigan show at the Riversbend in Eaton Rapids on the 23rd of January at 9:30 PM. Hope you can make it out. It's sure to be a blast!!
Thank you for taking a listen to my music. Glad you liked what you heard!
I hope you'll stop by www.davidshelbymusic.com to hear a sampling of all the tracks from my debut CD, I Came to Play. I look forward to hearing what you think.
I am sporting my A Story Told T-shirt and thinking of you guys. I'm really lucky to have gotten to know both of you. I probably wouldn't know anything or be a part of this wonderful Michigan music scene without you guys! I wish I could make it to glorious Fountain Square Park for your last show, but sadly, I have a wedding to attend in the morning and a show to play in Tulsa at night... on top of the fact that I'll be 1000 miles away.
That sounded like quite a sad goodbye, but it wasn't meant as a goodbye at all! I'm sure I'll see both of you again. I'm just in a reminiscent mood, I suppose. :)
