Astral Guard was formed in 2006 by Guitarist/Vocalist & Songwriter Carl Nelson, with Jacob Miguel on bass guitar. After David Click joined the band, our heroes quickly realized they needed louder, sturdier equipment, and quickly. Mark Walters took up the task of hammering out ball-busting beats on the drumset, again destroying everything in sight. With the addition of mad scientist Douglas Pendleton on the synthesizer, the band has been exploring the vast expanses of the netherworlds in search of music that melts faces and explodes the senses into golden infinity spirals of immortality nectar.
In October 2007, our fearless warriors had a unique opportunity to take over a local recording studio in downtown DeKalb, Illinois. Remodeling it, turning it into a recording studio/full performance venue and renaming it "The Rising Sun Studios", this would prove to be a worthy home base, and a cornerstone in the town's music and art scene.
The summer of ..08 found the Guard taking a two-month West Coast tour, playing at a variety of historic venues, including Quixote's in Denver, CO, Winston's in Ocean Beach San Diego, The Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood, and Mt. Tabor Legacy Theater in Portland, OR. The band recorded their exploits in a DVD documentary, see blog for details.
As we reach the beginning of 2009, Astral Guard is working to mix and master their first album, and have plans to record their second full-length album at the Institute of Professional Recording in Minneapolis, MN. They also are continually seeking to find steady management/A&R/record label assistance.
