the astral lounge began in February 2004 with a group of musician friends meeting weekly at a rehersal studio in Northeast Philadelphia to play original music. Drummer Joe Felicetti and guitarist Jim McCoy had grown up in the same Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood and had been playing music together since high school. Bassist Paul Descano had worked with Jim following college. Joe brought along his acquantence Greg Kinter for an audition during April 2004. He was added as a permanent member one week later.
Several other players came and went, but the core four musicans remained intact and began a search for a singer in earnest during 2005 with the goal of playing venues featuring original music in Philadelphia. The band had auditioned over a dozen vocalists before Greg brought musician friend Jason McHale to a rehersal during late 2006. After playing one improvised song together, the band felt that they had found a great match. To their relief, Jason continued to appear at rehersals and added his own original music to the songs that the band had already been practicing for years. Jason's voice proved to be a good fit over the band's existing material and he was quickly able to craft his own melodies and lyrics to give the songs a fresh sound.
Over two years following its formation, the astral lounge made its live debut on December 6, 2006, at Grape Street in Manayunk. the astral lounge was able to parlay this performance into additonal bookings at venues here in Philadelphia. The band has recorded a demo and coninues to write original acoustic and electric music with a modern edge.
