1970's
My mum was a DJ whilst I was growing up in the 70's, so I was drip-fed a diet of pop music and listened to the latest Top 40 vinyl including Bread, ABBA and Earth, Wind & Fire.
1980's
In the 80's I continued to listen to pop music, especially Madonna and Prince, but I also enjoyed soul, acid jazz and R&B.
1990's
I still loved pop music and was inspired by Paul Weller, Sting, Tracy Chapman and The Pretenders. I also loved U2, Radiohead and Pearl Jam.
2000 and beyond
Since I have been playing live acoustic music, I've been introduced to some amazing folk legends, including James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, John Martyn and Jeff Buckley (basically anyone with a name beginning with J!). I am also partial to a bit of Fleetwood Mac.

ASTRID BROOK is a folk singer songwriter based in London. Over the last 10 years she has progressed in to an elegant solo performer with a warm singing voice which lends itself perfectly to her gentle folk style. Astrid has played hundreds of gigs in the UK and abroad and continues to receive enthusiastic reviews from her audiences.
At the end of 2008, Astrid independently released her debut CD, WILD RIVER. The CD was produced by Rick Parkhouse (Red Triangle Productions) and is an acoustic album which effectively captures the purity of Astrid’s live performances.
Born to a Malaysian mother and an English father, Astrid grew up on Salisbury Plain in South England, in a town close to Stonehenge. Her mother was a DJ whilst Astrid was growing up in the 1970’s, so she was submerged in UK pop music from a young age and started songwriting at the age of 8. She dabbled in music throughout her teens but never really took it seriously and when she finished college she decided to broaden her horizons.
During a 10 year break from music, Astrid completed a degree, embarked on a business career in London and also did some travelling. At the age of 27, Astrid decided to reignite her creativity, so she started to perform at open mic nights in the city and she has been performing ever since.
Through her music, Astrid helps to raise funds and awareness for children’s charities abroad. These include Music4Children a UK-based charity helping underprivileged kids in Nepal; and the Country Music Foundation of Sri Lanka who work closely with Save The Children to help poor kids in Sri Lanka. Astrid has visited Sri Lanka for 3 years running to perform at an annual charity gig called 'Country Roads' to help raise money for children’s projects in the country.
