My Press bio says "From Acid Jazz to Electronic to Rock, Astrid's versatile talent has given her the freedom to explore all genres of music. With only a handful of commercially available titles, she already has hit makers like Victor Calderone, John Digweed, and Neil McLellan (the Prodigy) gravitating towards her beckoning voice and musical style. She is endowed with an effortless glow on and off the stage, suppressing a villain-like quality that compliments her exotic and subtly erotic style. Having the dynamic power of a true "Jane-of-All-Trades", she writes, composed, performs, and produces, all of her own music and lyrics."
Ya...Ok...except for the super collaborations that I'm very fortunate to have over the years... But now...so....Well....here's what I say (Short Version)
Born & Raised in the jungle of Sumatra.
Grew up with instruments, bands, and alot of alone time in my room figuring out spandex metal guitars, 80s pop rock keys, acapella harmonies, and dancing to Janet Jackson's video (for my abs...ehm...right...)
Arrived in the US 1999 aiming for knowledge, armed with my senses.
Went to Univ.,worked odd jobs (shhh),performed at small clubs, raves, as well as the subways...
Saved up some $$ got a keyboard and a microphone and started doing my own songs.
Found by Victor Calderone and Dave Tomaselli of Statra Rec. and relocated to NYC.
Coney Island to be exact... !!! At Dave Micalizzi's & Michael Marolla's (Technetium,Bluelight*Isms,Lypid) Studio, "The Zipper Clinic".
An old futon across the turntables was my bed for a year or so...
The closet in the back room was emptied out and became my studio...
Here I write my songs, work with talented & beautiful artists... or just be in the dark with machines' blinking lights.
