The Kings of A&R characterized this rising unsigned band as "...undeniably intelligent & versatile Brit-pop/post-punk/alternative hybrid." Listeners have likened astronaut's sound to Radiohead, early U2 and the late Jeff Buckley and Elliot Smith.
Blasting on to the NYC scene in March 2003, astronaut, with its wistful melodies, strong vocals, and complementary rhythms, has made its mark locally and nationally with a growing fan base and critical acclaim for its songs.
The astronaut crew is comprised of Jeff Merrill (vocals/guitar), Uri Djemal (guitar), Ethan Goldman (drums), and Karen Kanan Correa (bass). These spacemen grew up all over the world, and their equally wide-ranging musical backgrounds and interests have enabled them to create a sound that is of the New York scene, yet shaped by several others.
As Gregg Schaufeld, Editorial Coordinator from Nonesuch Records, puts it: "astronaut fuses the sounds of their alt/post-grunge/punk predecessors, pushing sweet-but-fierce vocals to soar with fast-and-furious, 70s-infused guitar licks and a rhythm section that will give you a run for your money."
hey! you stole the url that i wanted. damnyou! also, my friends and i were going to call our band astronaut! how about that. astronauts are so awesome. hope to hear some of your music soon. Lou
How is life after Jeff Merrill? The new stuff sounds just as good, but the guy kinda looks like Jeff, doesn't he? Anyway good luck. You're one of the best bands out there signed or unsigned.

For the love of God, you only have 1 EP out right now, or what? I NEED TO GET INTENSITY OF BEING. Easily one of the top ten greatest songs in the history of me.
