MySpace a place for friends

A Switchblade Affair began in the spring of 2004 when the core of guitarists Chris Chavez and Kyle Willmer began playing together at the tail end of another band’s career. They quickly began work on their debut album “Remorse is Memory Awake.” It was recorded over a three week period in Chris’s basement on borrowed equipment and self released in June of 2004. The release of the album was followed closely with a failed tour in which a booking agent in Omaha promised dates and called Kyle the day before leaving and broke the news that there were no dates whatsoever. Not to be deterred, the band set out for Omaha nonetheless and ended up playing shows in Iowa and Kansas.

Many tours followed, criss-crossing the Midwest in a tiny van. The original line-up stayed intact and toured for a little over a year. In late summer of 2005, the original bass player decided to move on. Chris and Kyle were discussing replacements and Alex Kirby came up. He was quickly rejected, however, because of other commitments he had made to another band. A week later, though, Kyle was drinking at a party and asked Alex to join anyway. Alex agreed and a hungover audition ensued the following morning. Alex has been with the band ever since.

The spring of 2006 saw the departure of the original drummer. Since then, ASA has seen a near revolving door of drummers with difficulty finding drummers that can give the kind of commitment that they seek. They still tour and play regardless, even embarking on an acoustic tour once just to still be on the road.

Most recently, ASA has added Nixon Wiley of Lubbock, TX on 3rd guitar and Jimmy Czywczynski on drums.

Several years, dozens of clubs and cities, hundreds of bottles and thousands of Pabst Blue Ribbon cans later, A Switchblade Affair is still ready to play anywhere that will have them. They are currently sponsored by Madison Amplifiers and Halo Guitars. They plan on recording the follow-up to “Remorse” in the fall/winter of 2007 and are very actively seeking a label to release it.
