Ataturk Band is a dynamic Finnish streetplaying duo. We bring together musical mythologies from different parts of the world and combine them however we please. The result is extatic, trancendental, meditative, noisy.
Our main ingredients are North-American roots music, Anatolian melodies, Euro-techno and klezmer plus many others. "Anatolian Riot-Blues" is what someone has said about the music of Ataturk Band. We tend to add a certain Anatolian twist to basic blues and funk. But that's only half the truth.
Both of the members are completely self-taught with the instruments. Very rare yet suprisingly fitting combination, together the diatonic harmonica and the Turkish baglama create haunting harmonies and uncanny melodies. Sometimes it turns out to be more abuse than blues.
Last summer we won the Finnish Championship of Multicultural Streetplaying at Faces Festival, Karjaa (2007). This summer we go back to the streets.
