2006
The idea of forming a band was tossed around for a long time. The band's origins lie in and around May of 2006. A band wasn't officially formed at this point, but future members: Zach Fedor (lead vocals), Brandon Holm (drums/backing vocals; later changed to guitar), Denim Kuck (guitar; later changed to drums), Joe Van Schaick (bass), and Jake Olsen (back-up drums; later changed to keyboard) talked about starting a band under the name Shitheads of a Down, after their biggest influence, System of a Down. After thinking about this, the five of them realized people probably wouldn't advertise, nor take seriously, a band called Shitheads of a Down, so they dropped the idea for a while.
August 2006 the decision was finally made: Zach (vocals/guitar), Brandon (vocals/guitar), and Denim (drums) decided to officially start a band. Not too long after did the band become complete with the addition of Joe (bass) and Jake (keyboard). It was a while before the band had decided on a name; December 2006, Brandon came up with the name A Tragedy Bound to Happen and that became the official name. The name derived from the ever-lasting theme that the world is coming to an end, and that man is the cause of this.
2007
Little band activity transpired across 2007 other than ideas, ambition, writing of some material, and the creation of various side projects. After a while, it was decided that Zach would be lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist and Brandon vocalist/lead guitarist. Another decision had been made in July; the band decided to change its name to The Seven Deadly Sins with the addition of some line-up changes (Denim playing rhythm guitar, Cavin Tschida playing drums, and Hannah Christianson singing lead vocals along with Zach). This transition didn't last long as the original ATBTH members then decided to revert back to the original line-up and use the T7DS line-up as a short-lived side project.
Long-time friend of the band, Noah Hickman (Damietta, Damnum Memoria, Of Salt and Swine), joined the band in September as lead guitarist/backing vocalist, and Brandon took Zach's job of rhythm guitar. The band attempted to write material and decide on a genre, but to no avail.
2008
In 2008, there had been been a revolving door of line-up changes. First, the band parted ways with Joe because he refused to practice with the band as a group. The bassist position was temporarily filled by a friend of the band, Chris Anderson (Magdalene Karma), before making the permanent change to Jake playing bass. In the midst of changing bass players, Noah left the band so that he could focus on his other band, Dawn of Fury (now named Damietta). Since then, Brandon had returned to the lead guitarist position and a friend of the band, Dan Briggs (The Wenises, Ashes of an Angel), took up the rhythm guitarist one.
At this point, the band had finally began seriously writing some material. Taking up a rock/experimental genre, the band posted some instrumental demos on their official MySpace page with possible lyrics to be recorded at a later date.
Zach, Brandon, and Jake played a show to a crowd of about fifty people at the Ring Mountain Cafe and Creamery in Eagan, MN, consisting of three System of a Down covers on March 21st, 2008. This was the first and is so far the only live performance by the band.
In May, Zach and Dan were getting into really big, but completely joke, arguments, during which, Dan left the band. In June, the band decided to adjust its genre to a more metal feel along with rock/experimental one. The band then added Angel Olson (Angels,Of Distortion, Rise Above the Static) as the new lead guitarist, making Brandon rhythm guitar again. In July, Brandon left the band in hope of pursuing more promising/serious projects, later founding the new band, Arctic Immortal (now named Ashes of an Angel). Since then, ATBTH had decided on adapting a more electronic sound to combine with the metal one.
In September 2008, the band had decided they wanted to change the band name. Being accustomed to the acronym, the band decided to change the official band name to simply, ATBTH, until they could decide on a new name.
2009
Since the band's name change in 2008, the members have spoken of what's to come of the band, which has since then been on a kind of unofficial hiatus. Recently, talk has started of possibly picking things up during the Summer. In the meantime, members will continue to work on other projects.
