Originally initiated as a side project, AT/DT has existed since 2001 when brothers Andrew Thomas (guitar) and David Thomas (drums) recruited Ben Jones (vocals) and Erik Pedersen (bass) to help form a proposed "mock rock" group. The band recorded an EP, Rock 4 The People, released in 2002, and that same year shot an appearance in the Siege Perilous Films independent feature-length movie revisions.
Following a year-long hiatus, the band reformed in 2004 and began to write and record for a new full-length CD. Shortly thereafter, though, Pedersen left AT/DT to attend violin-making school (seriously). The three remaining members continued working and in 2005 extended an invitation to an old friend, DJ Sandau, to join up as bassist. From there AT/DT began playing shows regularly throughout the Twin Cities area.
AT/DT's music is both both easy and difficult to categorize. Launching from a style that rests firmly on a foundation of basic hard rock and blues, the band ventures off into vast territory that encompasses up-tempo punk-pop ("Firefighter," "Interesting," "Baby's Back Seat"), spoof-rock and ballads ("Internet Girl," "Friends (With Benefits)," "Silent Treatment," "Space Lesbians"), and in-your-face heaviness ("Bar Fight," "Rock 4 The People," "Pink Is Back"). As quick as they'll vocalize a four-part harmony together in Beatles-esque fashion, they'll turn around and rip out a riff-based rock jam their childhood influences would be proud of.
AT/DT embrace an "anything goes" philosophy, retaining the lone stipulation that writing and performing must simply be "fun." Still, the band maintain a curious tone when claiming they exist in order to "bring the rock to the people."
AT/DT's long-awaited new full-length CD is in progress.
'george bush' sounds like mysteriousness at maximum volume. that's a whole new concept. mystery is so often muted, but it makes so much more sense when played at 11. how abrasively sneaky...
