Since I was a small child in Houston I’ve been an audiophile. Beginning at age 7 I would beg my mom to tune the radio to Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 every Sunday. The music inspired me so much that I began saving my allowance to buy 45’s like “Seasons in the Sun” by Terry Jacks and “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell, the year was 1980. As the years past my record collection grew to include the new sounds of the decade. Along with New Wave there was another explosive sound, Hip Hop. My best friend and I began to listen more and more to the new sound. The overwhelming influence of Hip Hop led us to begin break dancing. We began breaking all over the school, even in the cafeteria and halls between classes. We were almost expelled. No longer able to fulfill our passion in school we entered a local talent show in 1985. The grand prize was a brand new Nu Mark DJ mixer, and we won. After acquiring the professional DJ mixer we raided our parent’s music library and record players much to their dismay. We started to learn how to “scratch” breaking record needles and destroying vinyl. By 1986 we were well on our way to becoming turntablist. While digging thru other parent’s record collections we were exposed to all forms of music. I began to look at music differently. Drawing upon all these influence’s, my musical taste became diversified. In the fall of 1987 I discovered the underground dance music scene that thrived in Houston. I continued to collect records. Many of them are now classic and hard to find. All of them 12 inch extended versions of the popular songs of that era. Soon after, I began spinning primarily industrial and dance music for friends at special events. In 1991 I moved to Austin, Texas and witnessed the explosion of the techno-dance underground. Due to dance music’s popularity I began DJ’ing professionally. I worked at the clubs Ohm’s and Backstreet Basic's. Asserting my style of uplifting music, I became one of the most popular DJ’s in Austin. I was offered my 1st full time nightclub residency in 1997. Now, I’m known as DJ Atlas. Over the last 11 years I have been a full time professional disc jockey. I have also been instrumental in the design and installation of Pro-Audio and Video systems at some of Austin’s 1st mold breaking mega clubs. Over the years I have been invited to DJ at events like the SXSW music festival, Lollapalooza and the One World Festival. In 1998 I was solely responsible for putting together the Texas Electronic Music Festival (GOOGLE=THE NEW WOODSHOCK)it attracted over 2,000 people and had artist and DJ’s from all over Texas. Catering to such large crowds has resulted in diversifying my style and music library even more. After a highly successful run as a resident DJ, I moved to Northwest Florida in late 2007. I’ve retired from the nightlife after the birth of my son who is now three. Lately, I have been focusing on providing quality entertainment to the private sector. I am reliable and trustworthy. I will work hard to earn your business, and keep it.
