The Atomic Playboys have been a driving force in the San Antonio club scene since 2000. After periods of founding members and bandmates being weeded out by the harsh grind of hundreds of club dates and travel, the final line-up is now set in stone. As a hybrid of multiple local cover acts in town, the foursome that came together in 2007 continues to play an average of over 150 dates a year throughout Texas. Recent gigs include opening and closing for the Goo Goo Dolls at the San Antonio Livestock and Rodeo 2009 as well as hundred of dates on San Antonio's infamous Riverwalk. The band has tour history and fanbase in San Antonio, Austin, Eagle Pass, Temple, and more. Along their journey, the band picked up endorsements by Knucklehead Strings and Frets and Necks Specialty (Denton, TX).
The band's diverse set list ranges from new contemporary rock, country, funk, alternative, metal, and just about anything in between. A crowd favorite with tourists and locals alike, the Atomic Playboys pay homage to the greats of the 70's, 80's and 90's while keeping tabs on new modern hits that club patrons want to hear. The Atomic Playboys are backed-up with top notch sound technician and former club manager/ soundman Mark Gratton and light tech Harley Thompson (Minister Fiend/Pulsar Records).
The band has hit a new milestone with the recording of their first original single "Fire in the Hole" to go worldwide via iTunes on October 13, 2009. The single and b-side "She Ain't Good Lookin (But She Ain't Bad Lookin' Either)" were mixed and mastered by seasoned producer Mike Major (Sparta, At the Drive In). The single is being released on Bordertown Records (El Paso, TX) under an alias band name the ATOMIC PANCHOS. Lead singer and frontman Eddie "The Peacemaker" doesn't let the band's past or legacy dictate how the band moves forward. You can call the band whatever you want, but the music speaks for itself.
