Atomic Robokid started life as a protoype from one man's obsession with
arcade cabinets and electronic music, fuelled by a love of chip-tunes and
the EBM industrial scene. Ideas amassed, congealed in the depths of a hard
drive as the scaffolding for latent releases were constructed. Punctate
bodies of music surfaced sporadically, including the viral spread of a
remix for noise-punks Motormark under the guise of Grep Con One, but a
backlog of Nathan's half-built monsters began to clog the works. Enter James,
scene-dissident and longest serving member of the Elizium tag-team DJ duo,
eager to make something new but frustrated by the lack of enthusiasm he
found elsewhere. Fusing together their ideas and (dis)passions, the pair
formed the creative backbone of Atomic Robokid and created a fully-formed
body of music that had yet to find a voice. Stalwart of the Scottish metal
scene, Dave Beattie, generously donated his lungs to something other than
hardcore screaming, and every aspect of the Robokid fell in to place.
With James' jaded stance on generic club tunes, Dave's demand for strong
musical
character and Nathan's keen eye for a pop hook, Atomic Robokid aimed to take
something fresh direct to the dancefloor. Taking cues from infectiously
catchy video
game music, Atomic Robokid built an array of post-8bit melodies over a
driving base of
industrial/EBM rhythms. Keen to break the dependence on distorted vocals
and monotonous loops, Atomic Robokid have packed their debut EP, "Ambient
Fighting Temperature", with tracks that can be unequivocally called songs.
The cream of a prolific back-catalogue of ideas, "Ambient Fighting
Temperature" is just the start for Atomic Robokid's plans for a better
future.
