Howdy folks, thanks for dropping by! God knows what I really sound like, but it is important to know how I got here...and I'd like to thank all bandmates past and future for helping to show me the way, wherever it is I'm going.
Here is a short list of bands I've been lucky enough to play in. I'll leave out say, the disco bands even though that was the only time in my life I ever made a living playing music.
THE HAPPY EGGS - featured power popster producer and player Jamie Hoover. Along with Murphy Moore we put out a very rare and sought after 7" 45 EP of crazed new wave/punk. This was sometime in the early 80's in Charlotte N.C.
FADE TO BLACK - teamed up with these gothic rockers after I moved to San Francisco in about 1984. We put out a 12" 45 EP (uh...that would be bigger than a 7" one..) on CD Presents. Played some fine shows with The Damned, Specimen and the like.
GAME THEORY - joined up with Scott Miller in 1985 and recorded 3 albums, all produced by Mitch Easter, including the critically acclaimed Lolita Nation. GAME THEORY did 2 commercial videos - Erica's Word and The Real Sheila. Went on many national tours and none of us ever killed each other. Matter of fact, I met my future wife at a GT/True Believers show in Nashville Tenn.
THE LOUD FAMILY - hooked up with Scott again in 1998 and recorded 2 albums - Days For Days and Attractive Nuisance. We did 2 tours and and called it a day in 2000.
So here I am. I hope you like my music!
Gil

Hey, Gil Ray - Thank you for adding Helpless Dancer to your list of friends. Just in case you missed my note, HD was Bobby Gray's and my band from Charlotte, NC. I think Bobby (ex-Vandal) played bass a few gigs for the Happy Eggs. I have all Game Theory CDs -- they are great. I have requested Donnette Thayer as a friend for HD also. Your surf tunes are cool. Have an endless summer. Rick G. HD/bass
Guitarslingers True West will headline the first-ever Portland edition of International Pop Overthrow on Saturday, 8/23 (http://www. internationalpopoverthrow. com/Schedule-Portland-2008. htm).
Riding out of the west coast neo-psychedelic Paisley Underground in the '80s, True West went on to record three albums and be part of what the UK press dubbed "The American Invasion" in 1985, returning to tour the States with REM later that year.
Last year, Atavistic/Touch And Go Records released Hollywood Holiday Revisited, a CD collection of True West's first two albums Hollywood Holiday and Drifters, along with three extra tracks produced by Tom Verlaine of Television in 1983.
Holiday Greetings. I will be returning to my college radio alma mater KDVS on Thursday night 12/13, circa 6pm to hang with Ryan Todd on his California Police State show. I will be bringing my guitar and Ryan and I will be discussing everything True West and the halcyon days of KDVS ('76-'86). I will be doing a few songs from my seven (gosh!) albums, as well as spinning a few discs.
Join us won't you? Streaming at http://www.kdvs.org/listen/ and YES, it's still available on the radio at 90.3FM (now at a blistering 9,200 watts).
And if you miss that archive for a week or so at http://www.kdvs.org/shows/view/show_id/61
My unofficial fan video of Gil's song Queen of Blood (I Am Atomic Man, www.125records.com) is now on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKJpjd3Gq5I
... wherein our hero was last seen being drunkenly hustled out by annoyed bandmates, clutching a bloody hand in a kerchief, proclaiming, "I was shaving my shoe!"
What level of injustice is it when a simple shoe-shaving is marred by hand mutilation??? HAVE MERCY!
