Attica Rage formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 2003 by Ayrshire brothers Jonny Parr and Richie Rage with Big C and Stephen Bell. Their debut album, Ruin Nation, brews a potent blend of hard rock riffs, melodic anthems and infectious metal power-grooves with an occasional dose of darker, epic soundtracks. Produced by Big C, mastered by Ace (Skunk Anansie), the album also features artwork designed exclusively by legendary Motorhead artist Joe Petagno. The music of Attica Rage has drawn comparisons to the heavyweight crunch of Black Label Society, Metallica and Pantera with the punk attitude and raw biker-rock of Motorhead and The Almighty along with darker melodic touches of the likes of Alice in Chains and Type O Negative. Staying true to their heavy rock heritage and values; embracing the diverse sounds of modern metal with an enthusiastic DIY determination, Attica Rage are not about a scene, a fashion or a passing trend: it's all about the riffs, the songs, the live shows and above all, pure unadulterated hard & heavy rock n' roll! And beer.
Attica Rage's growing reputation has been built with their consistently solid, tight and energetic live performances at shows across the UK and Europe. They have shared festival bills with Thin Lizzy, Black Label Society, In Flames, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Clutch, Carcass, Orange Goblin, Firewind, The Wildhearts, Apocalyptica & Ministry amongst others. In summer 2008, their European live debut found them performing at Metalcamp in Slovenia - the only unsigned UK band to play the week-long festival. In December 2008, their appearance at Hard Rock Hell II - The Dragon's Ball in North Wales was a highlight of the weekend for many. Attica Rage have also supported British metal icons Saxon, Diamond Head and Blitzkrieg as well as Armored Saint (with John Bush of Anthrax), Betzefer, Mark E Smith & The Fall and Voodoo Six in addition to hundreds of headline shows across the UK. Attica Rage have been confirmed for the Metal Hammer-sponsored Hammerfest in April 2009 alongside Opeth, Saxon, Hammerfall, Cathedral, Skindred & more and will follow this up with a UK tour in May with more festivals being confirmed.
Along with the 2005-released In Concert with the Mirror EP, Ruin Nation receives regular airplay at home and overseas with highlights including Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson Rock Show on BBC6 Music, Thekla & Tina's New World Order show on Total Rock and Tom Russell’s Friday Night Rock Show on 96.3 Rock Radio. ‘Ruin Nation’ was one of Music News Scotland’s Top 4 Albums, ‘In Concert with the Mirror’ was voted as one of the Top 10 Independant Albums by MetalNet Radio in Canada and thousands of albums and downloads have found home in CD players, iPods and music collections around the globe - throughout the UK, Europe & USA and even as far as Japan, Australia and Puerto Rico! The band will continue to promote ‘Ruin Nation’ into 2009 but have already started writing new material with plans to to record and release the follow-up album early 2010, along with more UK & European tour dates and festivals.
