Audio Push emcees Oktane and Price Tag might be young guns in the rap game, but they are approaching their careers with the swagger of elder statesmen. The rappers from the Inland Empire section of Southern California are forerunners of the fast rising "jerk" movement, boasting the sub-genre's first tribute record, "Teach Me How to Jerk."

Their skilled energetic dancing style bares similarities to '80s Ska, mixed with rapid backwards skipping, squatting, popping movements and skinny jeans. But the former krump battle dancers also write their own lyrics and posses impressive, confident conversational flows.

Produced by Kadis and Sean of Roz Music Entertainment, "Teach Me How to Jerk" vibrates with hypnotic energy. It was the buzz they received throughout the I.E. and MySpace that secured them show dates, including a set at the highly regarded Texas Summer Music Conference. They caught the attention of Roz Entertainment, struck a production deal and started working on more songs including a remix to their already popular "Teach Me How To Jerk."

Their prominence on the jerk scene sparked interest from several major labels. But it was the enthusiasm expressed by the execs at Interscope Records that won them over.

While "Teach Me How To Jerk" serves as their introduction, Audio Push is multi-dimensional. "We have been a part of the jerk movement, but it's not the only style of

music we make," Oktane said. "We don't label ourselves a jerk group," Price Tag added. "We are people who make great music in general."

In addition to rapping and dancing, Oktane also sings. "The singing just came with the writing," Oktane said. "The better I became at songwriting, I just started adding singing to expand."

The duo influenced by the likes of Busta Rhymes, T.I., Ludacris, Jay-Z, Cassidy and Drake exit jerk mode for the hip-hop ballads "Chose You" and the Auto-Tuned favorite "Aviator." They are at their braggadocio best on the fittingly titled "Mike Jackson Bad." They showcase their rock influences on "Audio Kiss," and offer an appreciated encouraging message on the piano-driven "Run Away."

"Run Away" sets Audio Push apart from other new rappers. "Everyone has their songs you can jerk to and party to, and dedicate to your girlfriend," Price Tags said. "But I haven't heard in a long time a song that's personal and uplifting. This song is about keeping your head up and not running away from your problems."

"We wanted to do a classic album," Price Tag said. "We want every song on our album to be good enough to be a single."

Oktane and Price Tag met when they were in the 6th grade. They were part of hip hop rap and dance crew called the Misfits. They quickly became some of the top dancers in their city. By the time the krump dance phenomenon reached its peak and was documented in the 2005 film "Rize," Oktane and Price Tag had already made a name for themselves.

"When 'Rize' came out we were more into krumping than rapping," Price Tag explained. "That's when the movement was at its peak. We know everyone who was in the movie."

In 2007, during their senior year of high school, they teamed with a third friend to star in an online krumping dance reality show, "BuckThat." The 6-episode series featured them battling and rapping against the best krumpers in southern California. "Everyone tuned in on Wednesdays to watch it," Price Tag said.

In early 2009, they experienced another big career break when 99.1 KGGI, the Inland Empire's top hip hop and pop radio station, added their song to rotation. After performing an 8-minute halftime set for a 99.1 sponsored celebrity basketball game, the station staff took an interest in Audio Push.

"We couldn't even get off the court," Oktane said. "99.1's whole staff was trying to find out who we were." Within a week, 99.1 played "Teach Me How To Jerk" on its Bump It or Dump It segment and 95 percent of the callers loved it. "That's never happened," Oktane said. "When Drake came on, he got 94 percent." In the days following, the song became a top requested song, climbing up the ranks to No. 1. "That's when the labels started taking notice," Oktane said.

It's been a good minute since a new group broke out West without being associated with an already established superstar name. But Audio Push is that good. They don't need the co-sign. Their hype, energy and talent are enough to blaze a trail. It's already in motion.

Oktane explained it best. "People will relate to us because we take it so personal from our music to the show," Oktane said. "People can see that we are not just doing moves. You can always tell when artists are taking their work on a personal level because they are so into it.
