August are a relatively new phenomenon, coming together mid-2005 to create one of the most exciting and original sounds around. The Brighton-based band is essentially a folk-rock outfit, taking folk’s melodious guitars and storytelling lyrics and making them their own, blending the sound with elements of funk, soul/Mowtown and alternative rock. At times fast and funky, at others heartbreakingly soulful and atmospheric, august have a sound that is uniquely their own.
To fully compliment their music, august are passionate performers, their love of and faith in their sound is demonstrated in abundance at every gig. Their live shows, inspired by the likes of The Rolling Stones, early Elton John, and The Flaming Lips, are becoming legendary, and they are building a solid fan base in Brighton and London – and also made a big impact when they played in Cork and Dublin. In London they have played: Dublin Castle, Hope & Anchor, Lark In The Park, The Red Room (Comedy Club), Vibe Bar, and The Bedford, to name a few. They are now taking their music into universities and smaller London suburbs, while always constantly gigging in their home town of Brighton of course!
August are a thoroughly dedicated group of friends and musicians, totally committed to seeing that their unique music and live act gains the recognition it deserves. As the bond between them continues to strengthen, so does the passion that they share for what they are doing.
