Aurélien Budynek is a guitarist and composer working with various ensembles, ‘regardless of style, genre, or feel.’ An active New York City performer, session musician and teacher, Aurélien has also been featured in many major festivals, and travels the country playing on multiple projects.
He has shared the stage with Meshell Ndegeocello, Terri Lyne Carrington, Angus Clark (Trans Siberian Orchestra), Jamey Haddad (Paul Simon), Kudisan Kai (Elton John), Felicia Collins (David Letterman), Nona Hendryx, Joyce Kennedy, Siedah Garrett, Alain Mallet (Paul Simon).
Aurélien is also a member of the Cindy Blackman Group-feat. Vernon Reid and has most recently returned from their 2009 European tour.
Personal projects include a critically acclaimed album, with his progressive rock/fusion band ALKEMY, on Unicorn Records Canada.
He is a faculty member of the National Guitar Workshop, and graduated under scholarship from the Berklee College of Music, in 2005. Aurélien hails from Bordeaux, France.
‘‘Being appreciative of vast musical styles makes it easy to listen actively and play with genuine enthusiasm, a versatility that lends itself to expressiveness and spontaneity as a musician. When you are connected you are vital and you get to go through a metamorphosis with your audience, and the musicians who surround you, regardless of the style that you impose upon the notes. This is something that is very important to me. The essence of this work is being in a place where you get to share the intangible.
I am always up to making some music. There came a time when I realized that when it came to playing, something was unequivocally right. This reality keeps me moving forward at my best capacity. Ultimately I am grateful to meet a bunch of cool people, and see a bunch of cool places. I don’t choose to be swayed by the landscape of the ‘business’, people always want to hear live music and so music is just what I do.
