I am a Professional Windsurfer, and just recently quit my job as an Engineer working at a major Multinational Company
providing Equipment/Service for the Oil and Mining Industries, to sail fulltime. I'm the owner of my own
Graphic/Multimedia Design Company as well as my own Elite Sports Team (www.teamaus.com.au) and heavily involved in Sporting Event Organisation
and Marketing. I've been a member of the Australian Olympic Team for Sailing
and am currently an Australian Sailing Team Development Squad member.
I have a Psychology degree from the University of Queensland and also studied
web & graphic design, multimedia communications and marketing at Queensland
University of Technology. I travel on a regular basis, spending half of each
year based in Europe (Rotterdam, Netherlands) and travelling throughout Europe,
UK, Africa and Asia for windsurfing. When I'm home in Australia you could find
me anywhere from Sydney to Melbourne, Perth to Tasmania ...
I have a large support base of sponsors, helping me to achieve the best out
of my sport - Rubelli Furniture, Slam Wetsuits, Blackberry, Accelerade, Descente
Clothing, Neil-Pryde, Starboard, Goodtime Surf & Sail. With their support,
and the help of my coaches, I am campaigning to be selected to Represent Australia
at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games for Windsurfing.
Somebody asked me the other day what I was going to do when I finished windsurfing?
"I mean, really? You can't live off windsurfing forever can you?".
Well I believe I can. But windsurfing is just the start. My motto for 2007 is
"side-projects" as I'm usually doing another 3-4 projects on top of
everything else I do; things that you could turn into careers or just ways to
pay the bills. My latest ones include building my own elite sports team; creating
a windsurfing television show, touring the coast of a country; using my sponsors
as a base to get into the media ... I really believe anything is possible if
you're willing to sacrifice sleep and everything else to get what you want ...
NEW PROJECTS FOR 2008
Project 1:
I can't give away too much of this one but there will be something in the mix
involving another international windsurfer, touring the coast (of an undisclosed
country) windsurfing and partying the entire way and all of this being documented
on a new 'extreme' travel website (also being promoted from an undisclosed UK
based sporting website). It will be real fun. Watch this space!! (Anyone interested
in promotional opportunities to do with this project contact me directly at
seanobrien@aus120.com.
Project 2:
I am starting an Australian based Professional Sports Team, for a select group
of elite professional athletes. It will be a small team of 3-4 athletes (myself
included) who are competing in a variety of sports. (so far... windsurfing,
rowing, gymnastics). The team will be showcased on a website which will also
be a web-based hub for sponsor and media opportunities for these athletes as
well as a fan base and news portfolio. This one has already taken shape. We're called TEAM-AUS and you can find all the details on our Official Team Website: www.team-aus.com.au.
