The Alt Country Showcase seeks to create a space for Country Music and Alternative Music to gather, cross-pollinate, and explode. It represents a microcosm of the evolving sounds of Austin Texas, and it is always totally awesome.
Real Country, and alternative music have been scattered across the city at separate venues for too long; stuffed away in dive bars, and sandwiched between rock bands at Clubs that don't take proper care of budding bands like they should. Till one day the Lonesome Heroes decided it would be better to team up with other bands, and put original alternative music all together under one roof.
In October of 2006 The Lonesome Heroes became booking agents and found themselves booking bands one night a week at Austin's infamous Punk Rock club Headhunters. They began their experiment of letting the bands work together, and soon bands were swapping members, ideas, and fans. All sorts of sounds erupted ranging from bluegrass and country music, to indie rock and experimental music. Somehow it all seemed to make sense for these bands to play together, and while there is no exact link between all the diverse sounds, the common denominator has become original music that converses with and expands music of the past, not imitates it (& lots of Steel Guitars.)
The Showcase moved to Austin World Famous Hole in the Wall in September of 2007 after the bands and the crowd began to outgrow the small stage of Headhunters. The experiment proved to be a giant success after the crowds swelled beyond wednesday night proportions week after week.
2009 finds the Showcase moving beyond the Austin City Limits to Luckenback, TX. The Lonesome Heroes will bring a few of their favorite bands from the Last 3 years to play at the birthpace of Outlaw Country Music......
