About me: We are a fairly new group in Austin hoping to spread the word about animal-friendly events and opportunities. Everything from fun potluck dinners and movie nights, to learning opportunities with speakers or educational movies, to protests, leafleting, and demonstrations.
For domestic animals, we are focusing on Spay/Neuter education and funding, legislation and protests against Puppy Mills, and working on the Chain Free Austin ordinance - making sure people comply and don't chain their dogs. In addition, we have a zero-tolerance for dog-fighting.
For exotic animals, we are hoping to get City Ordinances so that they cannot be chained or have bullhooks used on them while in the Austin City Limits.
Demonstrations against stores and companies who sell or support fur will take place in winter, and year-round Foie Gras and KFC demonstration's take place.
Opportunities to volunteer at local shelters (such as Town Lake Animal Center), and sanctuaries (SARA Sanctuary), will be made available.
Educational opportunities - such as learning Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR), or to be certified to volunteer at TLAC, or to learn how to assess and report abuse.
We will hold fund raising events for both our group and specific causes. ALL money will be to help animals or to produce materials to help animals.
Benefit for the Austin Zoo this Saturday Aug. 1st, 2009 at the Carousel Lounge. Music is from 8pm-1am. $5 donation and/or blankets, sheets, towels, bowls, stuffed animal toys. Please see postr for band line up :∑83

The dance is its own justification. It needs no excuse, nor do
the
many millions who share its delights need to be told how
beneficial
it is to them. They know that they are healthier and happier men
and
women, and therefore get more out of life and give more to others,
because they dance. If the purpose of life is, in the words of an
immortal document, the pursuit of happiness, surely those who
train
their bodies to move in harmony with natural laws are fitting
themselves for capacity to enjoy all that life brings. To live
well requires good physical health, for which a prime requisite is
an
abundance of pleasant exercise. Not alone to those who are free
from the necessity of the various forms of exertion that are
termed "work," but to every human being, exercise is as
necessary as food. To those whose daily callings involve
substantial physical labor, the need for exercise is just as great
as for those of lighter employments. And nowhere can there be
found so satisfactory a bodily exercise as in the dance. Sports,
outdoor games, horseback riding, etc., have their place, but are
available to a comparatively small percentage of all the people.
Now that the introduction of the automobile has turned America
into a nation of riders on soft cushions, the need for proper
exercise has become more important than ever.

The Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army is looking for fools and
rebels, radicals and rascals, tricksters and traitors, mutineers and
malcontents to join its ranks. You could be part of a fighting force
armed with ruthless love and fully trained in the ancient art of
clowning and non-violent direct action. You could learn ingeniously
stupid tactics that baffle the powerful. You could uncover your inner
clown and discover the subversive freedom of fooling. You don't need to
like clowns or soldiers, you just need to love life and laughter
asmuch as rebellion.
