MISSION STATEMENT:
The general purpose of the Austin Blues Society, hereinafter also referred to as the society, and incorporated as a non-profit corporation organized exclusively for charitable, educational, religious, or scientific purposes within a meaning of Section 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code, shall be: 1) To preserve, cultivate, and support blues in Central Texas, and to promote the growth and appreciation of blues music and musicians, on all possible levels and in multiple venues, 2) To provide a newsletter of current blues news and events for members, 3) To increase awareness of and appreciation for the blues through society sanctioned educational efforts, and 4) To provide a network of association for area blues lovers and blues musicians.

Doors open at 6:00PM, shows are at 7:00PM and the show will run until 10PM. Cover is $3.00. Open to all blues musicians and blues lovers. Come on out and support the Blues in Austin! We also have a Showcase that is held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month where we support and spotlight two local blues bands. Doors at 6:00pm, show is at 7:00pm and also held at Antone's and cover is $4.00.

Oct. 20th - 7:00-9:30PM: Megan Blue & Her Sugar Daddies followed go on at 7P then at 8:30P, Myrna Cabello, Formerly with the Bisquit Rollers, Megan Blue sings sweet retro blues with her Sugar Daddies on backing band, which features Steve Power, Ricky Rees, Pete Larson (ex-Mother Truckers), and Nelson Norwood (recorded with Double Trouble and Ian McLagan.
Myrna Cabello, featured in her own musical/dramatic production at The Long Center earlier this year, brings her sultry voice to Antone's.
Tues. Nov 17th - 7:00-9:30PM: Jamie Krueger followed at 8:30 by AWEK (Toulouse France)
Jamie Krueger - Fiery central Texas guitarist kicks open the jams. Jamie is a MUST see folks!
AWEK > Is THE number one blues band in Europe!! They open for all the touring American Stars! Will be in Austin in November to record their latest album, and ABS presents their Antone's debut.
Tues. Dec 15th - 7:00-9:30PM: Reno Perez followed at 8:30PM by JT Coldfire Band.
Corpus Christi guitarist and singer Reno Perez, currently on tour with comedian Ron White, opens the show

CALLING ALL CENTRAL TEXAS BLUES MUSICIANS TO THE
2009 HEART O’ TEXAS BLUES CHALLENGE
The Austin Blues Society (ABS) is seeking applicants for the 2009 Heart O’ Texas Blues Challenge.
Winners of this Central Texas music competition will represent the ABS at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis, Tennessee, and we are accepting applications NOW! Read on to find out how to enter yourself, your duo, or your band!
In January of 2010, The Blues Foundation, headquartered in
Memphis, will host its annual IBC. The ABS will send one band and one solo artist or duo group to this prestigious event. To determine which Central Texas Blues acts will represent Austin to the rest of the world, the ABS will conduct the Heart O’Texas Blues Challenge. The process will begin September 1st and culminate onstage at Antone’s, Austin’s Home of The Blues, in mid November.
Transportation to and four nights’ lodging in
Memphis will be provided by ABS for the solo or duo and band winners of the 2009 Heart O’ Texas Blues Challenge

Windsor-born Stu Heydon is a veteran bluesman with his first CD as a leader. He began his career playing with Detroit’s legendary Bobo Jenkins, to whom this CD is dedicated. A charter member of the Windsor/Detroit scene, he was also a long time member of the Wild Child Butler band after he re-located to Windsor. So he knows about the blues. Although he has since moved to Carmel CA, he recorded much of this album at Grant Avenue Studio in Hamilton with our A-List players: Prakash John & Jordan John are on bass & drums, Mike Branton on rhythm guitar, Les Smith on harp andMichael Fonfara/Bob Phillips/Dennis Keldie on keyboards. The result is a solid program of original songs. “Middle Of The Night” is a chugging opener that reminds me of Coco Montoya or John Mayall. “Closing Time”, at a similar tempo, is another one of the highlights – a packed seven minutes that goes by too quickly. The B3/lead guitar sound he likes reaches its peak on the title instrumental, a jazzy delight. The slow blues “Fooled Myself” features a lengthy solo by the unheralded Les Smith although solo may not be the right word. Heydon simply sings over the hard-working band, much as a jazz singer might. It’s unusual but works very well here. As a singer, he
