Austin Books & Comics has been a N. Lamar fixture since 1977. Originally, it was called Austin Books and Fantasy. These days, the only thing remaining of the fantasy is the unicorn sign out front. The year 2000 saw Austin Books & Comics being inducted into the Austin Chronicle Best of Austin Hall of Fame. In 2005, 2006 and 2007, Austin Books & Comics was a runner-up for the Will Eisner Spirit of Retail Award. Wizard Magazine called us one of the top five places to satisfy your indie comics jones. Patton Oswalt also told Wizard we were his favorite comic shop away from home.
Our specialty is comics, new and old, though we do also carry a full line of toys, t-shirts, posters, and other assorted goodies. Most new comics can be found on "The Wall", an 80-foot-long expanse of shocking color and eye-catching visuals. Our back issues fill our warehouse-style back room in attractive back issue bins, and were described by the Austin Chronicle as being "impressive as the unearthed Library of Alexandria." For the keen-eyed collector and vintage comic enthusiast, we have over 50 boxes and a wall display of what we call "Showcase Comics." These are Golden and Silver Age comics that exemplify the rich history and classic creators of our industry. We also have one of the largest collections of trade paperbacks and manga available, and it is celebrated everyday with 10% off trades, graphic novels and manga.
We have comics for anyone and everyone to enjoy, so stop in to pick up your usual stuff or for a recommendation. Any of the tireless, devoted employees will be happy to help you out. Most of them are listed as Friends below. Brad owns and runs the shop, so he has no time for MySpace. Brandon, Anthony, Matt, Nolan, Kelly, Katy, Seth and Dale all have MySpace accounts and they're always happy to answer questions.(Speaking of, the opinions and MySpace pages of the employees of Austin Books & Comics are theirs and theirs alone. Enter at your own risk.) Feel free to add us, we're pretty nifty people. Rob avoids MySpace entirely, so you'll just have to come in to find out what comics he likes.

It's a new month so its time for another look at Kyle's favorite comic book company, Aspen Comics. Last month Cee Diddy was pretty brutal but has promised to change his tune this time around. Check out the video and please comment and rate so Kyle doesn't cry that Kat-El gets more views.
This week we have a new episode of Cee Diddy and Kyle Superstars. Watch as the boys explain what a fanboy is and why you should hug one if they cross your path.
We also have a repost of episode 5. I think some people missed this one because of the Hitler parody that went up the same week.
Help us make a DVD! The NCDH Sampler DVD is set to come out this October and we want the fans to choose the videos. Visit www.newceediddyholla.com and right on the front page you can view and vote for your favorite "Cee Diddy Ponders..."
This week Kat-El is BACK and reviewing Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Will Kat-El enjoy a movie about robots in disguise? Probably not.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
