General	The Food Not Bombs Story There are over 175 autonomous chapters sharing vegetarian food with hungry people and protesting war and poverty throughout the Americas, Europe and Australia. The first group was formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1980 by anti-nuclear activists. Food Not Bombs is an all volunteer organization dedicated to nonviolence. Food Not Bombs has no formal leaders and strives to include everyone in its decision making process. Each group recovers food that would otherwise be thrown out and makes fresh hot vegetarian meals that are served in city parks to anyone without restriction. Students Against Cruelty to Animals	Oct 11 2008 12:00 AM Animal Liberationist Peter Young Speaking at UT Hosted by Students Against Cruelty to Animals and United Student Activists. Peter Young is an animal rights activist who in 1997 released 8,000 mink from six fur farms across the midwest. In 1998, a federal grand jury indicted him on four charges of "Extortion by Interfering with Interstate Commerce", and two charges of "Animal Enterprise Terrorism". He was released from prison in Feb 2007, Before being sentenced, he told the court, addressing fur farmers, that he would "forever mark those nights on your property as the most rewarding experience of my life." He will be speaking at UT on Oct 15 at 7pm. It's in the Art building on 23rd and San Jacinto. Students Against Cruelty to Animals	Aug 18 2008 6:53 PM Action Alert • Ringling Bros has been citied over 70 times in the last several years for violating the Animal Welfare Act • Denny's, VISA, Mastercard, Sears, and Liz Claiborne have stopped sponsoring Ringling Bros after being shown video of animal abuse by handlers and trainers • one 8-month baby elephant died after falling from a pedestal during training • Ringling does nothing to protect elephant habitat in Asia or Africa, one of the biggest threat to elephants in the wild • Ringling Bros' elephants spend most of the day chained by one or two feet, unable to move more than a couple of feet • the single biggest cause of death for elephants in captivity is foot infections and arthritis caused by being chained most of the day • chaining is so deadly to elephants in captivity that it reduces their lifespan from 50-60 years in the wild to 20-30 years in captivity *The demonstration is Sunday at 11:30, all other times we will be leafleting. If you can make it to no other times, Sunday 11:30 would be the time we need the most people
