Austinjazz.net is my effort to give back to the Austin Jazz community. I studied jazz at UT, received a minor in music and played in almost every genre of band around. The best times I had were in Siringo Pass, an 8-piece funk band named after the street I used to live on in Oak Hill. We played regular gigs, private parties and weddings around Austin, Fort Worth and Dallas. Although this era was ridiculously fun and financially rewarding, I didn't go on to explore jazz the way my peers did. Instead I pursued interests in graphic design, web design and marketing. I am nowhere near the jazz musician that my peers have become, but that doesn't detract for my love and appreciation of this music, and so in October of 2004 Austinjazz.net was born.
I think there are a lot of wonderful jazz musicians in Austin, yet this city is not really known for jazz. I guess I don't understand since The Elephant Room is one of Wynton Marsalis' "best picks" according to USA Today. That being said though, I'm pretty content with our small and unique scene here and I'm happy to contribute to it through this website.

P.S. Austinjazz.net is not officially an NPO, but all past proceeds from Austinjazz.net Festivals have gone back into maintaining this site and paying performers for future jazz festivals. Future proceeds will also go to minimal staff and equipment such as cameras, video cameras, and audio equipment, to record and document local jazz music.
