About me:
The Austin Time Exchange Network is a new, local program that enables individuals to provide and receive skills and services within a network of people and organizations in Greater Austin.

Similar to concepts expressed in bartering and other alternative currency systems, this grassroots initiative lets members exchange labor and assistance without using the U.S. Dollar.

The program values equality and rewards the service of each person equally in that every member's hour is weighed the same: One hour of service equals one Exchange Share, regardless of the type of skill offered.

The Exchange Share earned can be spent on receiving an hour of service from another member.

The Austin Time Exchange was created to provide individuals with the means to reintroduce a reliance upon the resources found locally from neighbors, acquaintances, and community members while aiming to provide an alternative approach to community development and economic opportunity.

Death Penalty Awareness Week
February 25-29, 2008

This is an annual event with participation from CEDP chapters across the US. The Austin CEDP will be organizing a week of activities including:

A People’s Tribunal Against the Death Penalty
Tuesday, February 26 at 12 PM
UT Campus, West Mall Steps
We will present strong evidence against the continued use of the death penalty. Our verdict: the death penalty is dead wrong!

Is the Death Penalty on the Way Out?
A CEDP Presentation
Wednesday, February 27 at 7 PM
At UT, NOA Room 1.116.
From the Supreme Court moratorium due to a case about lethal injection, high profile cases like that of Kenneth Foster, Jr. in Texas, to abolition of the death penalty in New Jersey, support for the death penalty continues to slowly decline. Join the CEDP for a presentation that will describe these recent developments, as well as look at the CEDP's role in the struggle to end the death penalty.

Displays and tables on the West Mall Wed. the 27 in the afternoon, and at Wheatsville Co-Op on Friday early evening.

We Demand a New Trial for Rodney Reed!
March and Rally in Downtown Austin
Saturday February 2,
Starting at 12PM at South Congress and Monroe, Northeast Corner
March to City Hall Plaza
Rally at City Hall at 1PM (Lavaca and Cesar Chavez)

Featuring speeches from the family and supporters of Rodney Reed.

Texas death row prisoner Rodney Reed’s case is in a critical phase, with the possibility of a new trial greater than ever. His case sits before the Court of Criminal Appeals (over which Texas' killer judge Sharon Keller presides) and oral arguments on the case are scheduled for March 19.

We need your help now to draw Austin's attention to this case and send a clear message to the Court: New trial for Rodney Reed!

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of media around the case. Rodney's defense has long posited that another suspect in the initial investigation is responsible. That suspect, Georgetown police officer Jimmy Fennell was recently indicted for rape and other charges.

Here is a good article on recent developments:
http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/01/07/0107fennell.html

Rodney's case is currently in the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, and one goal of the CEDP has been to win a new trial. Your participation in the march is needed to bring us one step closer to winning justice for Rodney Reed!

Please contact CEDP for more information:
