  • Bio

Austin Weyand is passionate about the guitar and has run the gamut of performing situations. From playing guitar concertos with symphony orchestras, jazz jam sessions in Chicago, bluegrass and Celtic music on a tour through Europe, a local rock band which plays regularly in the intermountain west, to Spanish Flamenco for an 8 week run of the U.S. Premiere of Zorro the Musical, Austin can't get enough of the guitar. Drawing from this range of musical styles and experiences Austin uses what he has learned to enhance his special skill in composing and arranging for fingerstyle guitar. He creates a truly diverse and awe-inspiring experience with his pianistic approach, displaying melody, harmony, bass lines, even percussion in stellar arrangements and compositions that fascinate audiences wherever he performs. Austin's new CD is entitled "They Call me Dad" Songs for my daughters. Austin composed and/or arranged 11 pieces for guitar and violin each of which are dedicated to his three young daughters. It contains songs that he wrote specifically for each daughter such as "Carry Me," "Kiki's Smile," and "Crawling." It also has covers of songs that have special meaning to his girls such as "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce, "Concerning Hobbits" from The Lord of the Rings, as well as others. Austin is the 2008 champion of the State of Wyoming Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and has drawn attention to his music. National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Chris Proctor says, "Austin plays imaginative, original pieces and arrangements for solo guitar with a fine technique and excellent tone. If you like solo acoustic guitar, my guess is that you'll find his music right up your alley." Austin did his undergraduate music/guitar study at Utah State University and then earned a Masters degree in guitar/jazz studies from Northern Illinois University where he studied with classical, jazz, jam band, and world music virtuoso Fareed Haque. He has been featured as a soloist and ensemble musician in concerts, television, radio and various recordings. He makes his home in Honeyville, Utah and enjoys performing and teaching whenever he can. Both of Austin's solo albums can be purchased through his website. www.austinweyand.com
