I am into adventuring - anything on the edge that normal people wouldn't do, but hard to find an adventure these days that increases the heart rate, however always on the lookout.
I enjoy the company of anyone with a sense of humour that can also push the boundaries of broad thinking.
I fear very little, with the exception of one thing - sometimes myself.
I enjoy hitting the forests with my friends, camping, getting my hands dirty, exploring and searching for the 'unknown'.

Music
Swing, Jazz & Blues - a strange mixture, even classical. Dislike heavy, trashy, crude or tasteless music. Anything with a little meaning is better than 'a noise'.
My Ipod contains a lot of different music and artists including Robbie Williams, Michael Buble', Pink, Elton, B52's, Eagles, Sinatra, INXS, Chris Isaak, Neil Diamond, BB King, Harry Connick Jr, Monty Python Skits, Steven Wright skits (my favorite comedian), Elvis, humorous and tragic one hit wonders from the 70's and 80's - just to name a few (very few).
Movies
I have over 400 movies on DVD and many favorites, but my time fave at this point of time is Band of Brothers (Close the blinds, lock the door, turn off the phone and don't disturb for the next 10 hours). Damien Lewis is an amazing Actor. Terminator, Mad Max (Road Warrior for other Countries), The Specialist, Pride and Prejuduce, Meet Joe Black, Troy, The Bourne Identity (1,2,3), The Thin Red Line, A simple Plan, Spy Game, Boys on the Run, Saving Private Ryan, Loves Brother, Five Fingers, When a Stranger Calls, Shawshank Redemption (met some of the actors), Zulu, Duplex, Cellular, What Woman Want, One Flew over the Cookoo's Next, Four Feathers, Serendipity, The Lost Boys, Master and Commander, Zorro, Top Gun, Broken Arrow, Alien, Generals Daughter, Weekend at Burnies, Million Dollar Baby, Brokeback Mountain, Sahara, You've got Mail, Open Water, Point Break, Ned Kelly, Minority Report, Conair, Liar Liar, The Note Book, Indiana Jones (of course!), The Yards, View from the Top, Basic Instinct, To end all Wars, Conspiracy Theory, Artificial Intelligence, Trading Places, Kill Bill, Memphis Bell, Casino Royale, Alive, Gladiator, Some of my Doco's, Hunt for Red October, Philadephia Experement, Ocens 13, Legend, Where there will be Blood, - now suffering brain fade!
Due to being a guy, predictably, most of my favorites are War and action movies, providing they are at least semi-realistic ( and of course, being a typical Male......I could have saved them all, armed with only dry grass, if I was there.....).
I also enjoy a good comedy.
Shamefully, I am a total sucker for sad movies - tissue please....

About myself - Dean Harrison - , our team and my Website - www.yowiehunters.com
First a Little about me;
After moving to Northern New South Wales, then some years later to the Gold Coast during the early 90’s I had heard faint rumours of a Bigfoot-like creature that was supposedly living in the forests of the Great Dividing Range. Although interesting, it certainly didn’t impact MY life and I lived as a normal person would in my early 20’s.
A year after buying a house at Eagle Heights (Mt Tamborine), that backed onto vast unhospitable Rain Forest. I arrived home at Midnight after doing a late shift on the Gold Coast, parked my car in the carport and walked through my front gate.
The noise emanating from just beyond my back fence was nothing less than horrifying.
I had never in my life heard it before and it struck instant fear through my bones.
I stopped and stared into the darkness. My natural curiosity required further information, however something deep within me urged me to stay back. I knew whatever it was, it was a lot larger than I. The vocal capacity was enormous and the weight of “it” was very heavy and it crushed the foliage beneath every footstep. The fact that it appeared to be bipedal was disturbing, let alone its actions and aggression as it tore out small trees and plants, then threw them a great distance.
I tried to reason with myself for a logical “within the square” explanation, yet there was non.
For a personality like myself at this age, nothing ever put my on the back foot, but this had really stopped me in my tracks. Although I desperately wanted answers, something said inside ‘you don’t want to know – just get in the house’.
The next morning I quizzed my neighbours. They had never heard anything strange in the years they had lived there. It was a mystery soon forgotten. Some months later, there was a noise from the Rain Forest so loud that it brought half the street out of our homes, yet gain another mystery. For the next 2 years life was normal, however this was all about to change forever............
I had brought an acreage in the semi-rural area of Ormeau, half way between the Gold Coast and Brisbane and had been living there for over a year. I was fit, fearless and had been boxing to keep myself in shape. I had a girlfriend in Melbourne and had plans to move to Sydney, where we would live together and I was jogging late at night for the past 6 weeks in order to lose some weight.
My usual route was around the streets then through a bushland corridor between Ormeau and the town of Norfolk. The track then was narrow and very thick. This life changing night occurred late in June of 1997 – a Tuesday night – two weeks prior to the move. My plan was to head straight to the track and jog to Norfolk, however as I arrived at the beginning of the trail I made a spontaneous decision that would save my life. I stopped to make a call to Melbourne.... Before entering the forest, I walked to the left of the track and stood in the 11pm darkness behind a group of trees on the phone. Deeply in love at the time, I payed no mind to anything other than concentrating on the conversation.
Some time had passed and the conversation was in full bloom when she asked what all the noise was about? My mind zoomed out of the conversation and back to my environment to the awareness of trees being felled and branches torn down (Why didn’t I initially hear this? Odd for most people, but true. For some reason or another, if I concentrate on something which I consider important or takes all my attention, the phone ring or people talking to me is miles away. My daughter is a clone of her Father and my Brother is much the same – being a musician).
My first thoughts and comment in return was it was most likely a group of children that had snuck out at night (which we often did), however on a Week night was somewhat strange, but again I paid no mind to it. The conversation continued..... It was several minutes later that I was aware that the noise had all but subsided.
A few minutes further on I could hear a noise now and then which indicated to me that perhaps the “group” had left but there was still one remaining trying to find his way out carefully. The conversation again continued until I came to the realisation that he was coming towards ME, but oh so very carefully and deliberately. Every time he made a noise now, he would stop for 15 or so seconds and then resume. Branches would be extremely slowly parted, brushing of leaves as the body passed by, then STOP.
Later, closer, a twig would break and STOP. This continued for the next minute or so. By now I was aware that someone had an interest in me and had an agenda. I knew now that I was the target, but for what reason? My rational simply said to spy.... I whispered into the phone that someone was sneaking up on me; the response was to be careful and my reply was “Don’t worry, let’s see what he has on his mind”.
By now the conversation was irrelevant, as my entire focus now was on the person that had unexplained intentions – seemed like fun to me at the time. That was until he reached the forefront on the foliage.....
With my back to him and phone to my ear, suddenly I was HIT with an unexplainable feeling of DREAD. My body basically shut down and fear hit me from my feet to my head and back down again. Totally unexplainable at the time (However I am used to these stories now). My natural instincts knew something was NOT right. Why was I feeling like this? It was only some guy after all and I thought I could handle myself very well (at the time), and pretty much welcomed it. Yet here I was totally paralysed and a body full of DREAD.
I was so scared to look around, because I thought if I made known the fact that I knew (Now turning from “he” to “it”), I was aware and looked at “it”, things would get worse. Odd thing to think I know, however I have to state the facts of the night. I managed to strain my eyes around enough to see a very large silhouette standing roughly 7ft. Totally confused and muscles locked, I managed to whisper into the phone “I have to do a runner here”, in exchange I heard many words that were of no meaning due to my predicament. I lowered the phone ever so slowly and gazed up towards the street.
It was a clear run.
The bush line stretched towards the street to my left. My legs were gone and I couldn’t move. I knew I had to but I was stuck. Time was now, time was now... MOVE.... but I couldn’t. Something was oh so wrong.... I was too scared to move, yet I had to. I counted in my head One.... two..... THREE! The moment my right foot moved I heard a flinch and “it” flew into action.
ROOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRR.......... The sound of the roar was tremendous, awesome and of the likes of which I had never heard before. The closest I can resemble is a Lion, Cow and Bear rolled into one – absolutely enormous. I was running as fast as I could and it took the bush line around me crashing down everything in its path.
The giant foot fells hit the ground with a gigantic thud and on every pace it’s diaphragm bounced resulting in a guttural grunt and at the very same time it was screaming, roaring and yelling as it jumped logs and smashed through tree’s. Every dog in the vicinity began barking wildly at the noise.
Seconds turned into days.
Despite My running on flat grass and it chasing through thick bush of which I couldn’t even see my way through, it was catching up in no time at all and before I knew it, it was running next to me. This was the point where I was most certain I was going to die.
The power and raw aggression I witnessed in this beast that night if not shocking, was awe inspiring. Hollywood yet has never produced the impact, power and brrrrr that I endured during this horrible chase and my simple words will NEVER do it justice – nothing ever could.
Now it was running next to me, however it began to run in front and it was at this time I realised why. It was heading me off. At this point I turned to my right towards a street light. It lunged out from the bush, but I was too far away and as I was running and looking over my shoulder at it, he turned back to the bush line into the foliage and squatted watching me.
I was now out of breath beneath the street light looking back. After composing myself, I said into the phone “You will NEVER guess what just happened” – she witnessed the entire thing, however most of what she heard was wind as I was running.
This changed my entire perspective on the Australian Bush and my life – I needed answers. I remember thinking at the time that it did not matter what type of weapon I may have had, it would have made little impact if any at all, as it was just far too big, strong and powerful. It would have snapped my neck like a toothpick.
Early the next morning I called my older Brother and we both scoured the area for footprints, foliage damage and other clues. Besides some snapped saplings there wasn’t any evidence due to the ground was very dry and covered with pine needles.
Next Port of Call was my neighbour Jack Armstrong, after hearing my story drew a very stiff tongue in his cheek, a dry smile and amused eyes.
Not far after I moved to Sydney and not able to leave this alone, I took my Researching further – and how! This was just the beginnig of a totally different life.............
Since then, I have travelled Australia (and the World) on the most AMAZING adventures.
