“THE BIO OF AUTHENIC AKA MARQUIS TUCKER” “I’m half black & half amazing” exclaims this Roxbury native, as he spits hard but deep lyrics over a tough bass backed catchy piano instrumental on his song “Its Our Time”. And his verse and flow always proves that to be true. Born, raised, and residing in Boston, Massachusetts, “Authenic” (meaning authentic), who is also known to many as “Marquis Da Goldenchild” and/or “$Quis Dollaz$” wrote his first verse at age 11. He has been writing and rapping ever since. Over the years he has performed at many different shows fashion shows, talent shows, parties, church events, open mics, critical breakdown, a couple of small clubs & bars in and out of state, many Teen Empowerment events, “GBos’s 2nd annual Boston’s Best Talent”, he will also be featured in “New England’s Best Talents 6 city Tour”, as well as many other college shows and performances. Authenic has been featured on 2 mix tapes that were put out by Bottom-Up Productions releasing 2 exclusive tracks including the responding tongue lashing, verbal assault diss to 3-J "The Clap back Freestyle". He has also been featured on Cambridge, Massachusetts own top Rap Duo "Da Heavy Weightz" first LP-"Round One, Split Decision" on the track "187 Degreez". And has collaborated many times with his favorite producer Big Session of Ghetto Radio Productions and Acuta Records. Authenic believes that hip hop (as well as many other types of media), is one of the biggest resources in the process of changing society. He tries to reflect that in a lot of his lyrics. He also loves to have fun and joke, but knows when to get serious. So you will hear a lot of humor, punch lines, and storytelling in his music. If you ask him what influences his music, Authenic would say the following “makes his pen move”; life, poverty, justice, his perception, the truth, government & its policies, his mother, Jay-Z, NaS, Kanye West, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Big Session (his mentor and main producer), just walking down the street & more. People constantly ask him what his music and style sounds like. He was once quoted in response to the question saying “whatever you like unless you like whack music!!!!!!! I'm versatile. I’m always evolving. I don’t want to ever be painted to any corner like oh he’s a such & such type of artist…unless they’re like he’s a phenomenal artist. I'm so hip hop, but with traces of smooth R&B, add a touch of some hood music, and underground/commercial rap. Then most importantly, throw some dashes of freedom fighting activism, followed by some story telling, plus I'm a punch line beast. That’s who Authenic is, call me the African-American Idol. I love to be creative. It also depends on my mood, and what I’m going through at a particular time. You listen to my music and you hear what’s going on in my life and the world around me. Just notice who & what my influences are, you’ll see that influence in my music but with that “Quis” flavor. Therefore, no matter what or who my influences are, I still sound like me. I’m giving my point of view, which a lot of people can relate to. You may see or hear yourself through my lyrics”. Authenic is currently working on a mix tape along with “D.Soares” of “Da Heavy Weightz” entitled “The Best of Both Hoodz”.
