One of the staples of any writers’ group conversations is the plot. It’s integral to every novel, holds everything together. It’s the vehicle that carries readers from page one to “The End”. It’s one of the scariest things an author faces when s/he decides, hey, I want to write a novel!
How many of us have made this decision, then stared at that blank page or computer screen without a clue about how to proceed? What about those of us who write by the seat of our pants, the pantsers? Do we dare risk scaring off our muse by [shudder] plotting our story? How do the mega-plotters, the overachievers, know when it’s time to stop and just put pen to paper?
Join four-time Golden Heart® finalist and Daphne du Maurier winner Karen Docter as she shares the “W” plotting technique she’s used successfully for more than 12 years.
Included in this workshop is Karen’s analysis of the movie “Romancing the Stone” where she shows how the technique works, discussing detailed plot points for the main characters including the villain. Exercises will help you to uncover the skeleton of your own novel. Whatever your genre, by the end of the course not only will you have all of the tools you need to finish plotting your story using the “W”, you’ll know how to use it to write the synopsis we all love to hate…all without writing one word of the novel.
If you’ve already started your novel, that’s okay. It’s never too late to apply the principles of the “W” to your developing story. Have you run into a wall? Don’t know where to go next? Has the story gone flat? Use the technique to pull apart the elements of your story so you can plug the holes, work through/over/around walls that loom in your path, and get moving on your story once again.
This is a hands-on-your-own-book workshop designed for the novice and experienced writer.

FIVE INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT ME
[An Ongoing List since March 2008, see Blog for previous months]
91. I’ve been downhill skiing exactly twice in my life, a sad commentary since I live within range of the best ski slopes. Probably a good thing, though, since too many fanny prints in the snow does mess up the slopes for everyone else! LOL
92. Cross country skiing is definitely not my thing either. My one shot at that sport told me it was too much work for this couch potato. I’m a sit by the blazing fire with a book kind of gal.
93. I do love bowling. Played in a league through college with 170 average, pretty good for a girl! Had to give it up thanks to arthritis. Bummer!
94. Growing up, I wanted to be a singer. I loved choir in school. Sang soprano.
95. I value honesty in my friendships.

Hi, how are you doing, my friend? Everything is fine here. Hard to believe the weekend is here already. Don't have any plans as usual except work and then home again. Weather here is a little chilly but not bad yet. Gotta go so take care and have a great weekend.
Hi, my friend, just wondering what all you have been up to. Work was so slow it was hard to stay awake. I hope it picks up pretty soon. Was a bit on the chilly side here, so grabbed a lite dinner with my son and came home. Hope we don't get any snow as they are saying we will probably get some tomorrow. We could do without that white stuff. Take care and have a great Monday.
Hey, how are you? Hope this finds you and your family doing ok. As for me, I am fine, but my husband is under the weather so wonder if he may have the swine flu. Seems to have most of the symptoms. I told him to get into the doctor but knowing him, he probably won't. Oh well, that will be his decision. Take care and have a wonderful Wednesday.
Hello my friend, how are you doing? Me, I am just trying to stay warm.
It has been rainy, sunny for awhile, and then rainy again. Oh yes,
chilly a good share of the time. Was slow at work today and will
probably be the same tomorrow. It will no doubt be a very long day. Hope you are
having a great weekend. Take care and enjoy your Sunday.
Lots of hugs,
Muriel
Hi
my friend, how are you doing? Not much going on here. Same old thing.
Work, cloudy and more rain. Hope we see the sun sometime this weekend.
Take care and have a good one. Hugs, Muriel
Hey, my friend, how are things with you? This has been just a kick back
and relax type of day for me. Didn't have to go to work today, and it
was raining so just stayed home. Hope you are having a good week and
that Thursday will be a great one too.
Hugs,
Muriel
