Autobody is/was a rock band comprised of highly experimental and stubbornly independent musicians. Sheila, Dave, Jim and Eric have always explored new ways to combine guitars, drums, electricity and tape. Since forming in 1995, the band has called Brooklyn its home, a land of many practice spaces.
Their rock family tree has branches extending all over the place, above and below the radar. Autobody willingly shares its members from time to time with Dymaxion, Fly Ashtray, Drumhead, Wharton Tiers Ensemble, Flaming Fire and others.
Autobody has a lapful of tapes and cds documenting their adventures, including a 1999 self-titled CD on the Silly Bird label. In 2001, Old Gold Records released a 7" single showcasing some of the band's lo-fi experimentation. In 2002, Autobody released "Xelp", full of songs and stories recorded in the studio of James Kavoussi at Rubulad, and "Black Angus II", full of choice cuts of prime home recordings.
Fans of early Devo, Led Zeppelin, Ennio Morricone, Thinking Fellers Union, Boredoms, Pink Floyd and the Residents would also be friendly to Autobody.
Autobody has received airplay on WMFU, WNYU, KZSU, WMBR, KTRU, KCRW and others. Check back here for juicy unreleased mp3s that showcase the full diversity of these bunch of nutjobs.
