Automatic Gainsay was formed in a bandroom in 2003. Embracing a low-fi aesthetic coupled with a retro sensibility, Automatic Gainsay seeks to generate traditional pop in a semi-traditional way.
Automatic Gainsay is a band in name, but is largely the writing, performance, and recording of Marc Doty. Marc has been writing since the age of 9 and producing since the age of 16.
Contributors and at the very least, honorary Automatic Gainsay members include Klayton Giese (some guitar and bass on such songs as Caroline's Pink Umbrella and Anthem), Pat Simmons (drums on songs such as Mine and Caroline's Pink Umbrella), and Caroline (occasional lyrics and voice).
Automatic Gainsay has four albums:
"The Sunrise Cafe Soundtrack" An almost-all Mattel Optigan Country and Western album with songs from the Theater Gallery's original production "The Sunrise Cafe."
"Cant" Unfinished and featuring such songs as Parade for Plato, The Mirror, Phantom Limb, Eat Yourself, The Truth, An Obligation, When Things Happen at the Same Time, Mister Salty, Mouth Fell Off, and "Eat Live Bees." Automatic Gainsay had its start in a more TMBG-esque sound.
"Recondite" The Automatic Gainsay album now nearing completion, from which the songs above have been taken.
"Psst." The soundtrack to the Off Leash Area original production "Psst" based upon the graphic art of Norwegian artist Jason.
Automatic Gainsay is currently desperately working to finish the third album, playing live when possible, and increasingly performing in Bath England.
Automatic Gainsay's philosophy is that of... well, essentially... "here is how we are going to fuck with sound and modern musical context," coupled with "let's write catchy songs," tripled with "let's embrace an art song deconstructionist experimental aesthetic," quadrupled with "we wish we were the Beatles and suck at emulating them."

I am throwin a huge party at the swamp to raise money for a great benefit! To help Robert Yamada walk again! He had a diving accident a few weeks ago, and is now a quadriplegic. His medical care is expected to be for a lifetime and will cost millions to reconstruct their house, and pay for his continuous care.
