Mike Appelstein - guitar, bass, various percussion, Omnichord, miserable whine
Influences
Melodies and riffs stolen (er, "appropriated") from Marine Girls, Young Marble Giants, Wandering Lucy (listening with fresh ears, I can hear Lindi Coyne ripoffs in almost every track), Po!, Cannanes, Receptionists, Beat Happening, Trixie's Big Red Motorbike, Oklahoma Scramble, and '60s soul tracks.
Sounds Like
The screech of the PATH train on the way home from a show in someone's apartment. Stopping for the night at a central Iowa Super 8 motel. Making sense of the past and preparing for the future.
Low budget and low fidelity pop songs recorded at home on cassette four-track using whatever meager available resources are available at that moment. Two CD-Rs of songs recorded between 1998 and 2004 in Hoboken, Seattle and my current home of St. Louis. Currently on what's looking more and more like a permanent hiatus.
I used to be in a band called the Poconos. We released a 7" single on Jigsaw Records that you can order for cheap through www.indiepages.com.
thanks for your lovely comment Mike!
the world sure does miss Caught in Flux - one of the best fanzines I've read.
Hope you and your family are well.
best wishes, gayle
