About Autumn Sky (2nd Sat Show at Yogurtagogo in Sac!)
Little Things You Might Not Know About Autumn Sky (Me)
1. My name is Autumn Sky. That's my first and my middle name. I was named after the sky in October, when I was born (on the 10th.) My parents were very romantic, and also hippies. They aren't so hippy anymore, but I still love my name. I couldn't imagine being anyone else.
2. I am twenty years young. I homeschooled most of my life (except for two and a half years of high school, in which period of time we moved so much I went to four different ones,) and got bored of it all at seventeen. I graduated high school and went to college, where I studied as a music and jazz voice major.
3. I used to have a terrible fear of singing in public. Singing is extremely personal to me...there's no instrument to blame when you hit a bum note. Summer Camp and leading worship in youth group cured me of my stage fright.
4. I have six little brothers and sisters. Most of them are much taller than I am.
5. I am a natural blonde, it comes from my Danish side. I have not seen that haircolor for at least five years now.
6. My eyes change color; they are either green or blue, depending on the weather, what I'm wearing, and my mood.
7. I used to live on an old hippy commune in Mendocino, CA, when it was being used as a prayer retreat. My parents were the caretakers. It was a little bit like living in The Shire. We had sheep, ducks, rabbits, and a pig named Maybelline.
8. I am a cat person, but I have also had pet june bugs, rabbits, chickens, and birds.
9. I wanted to be an author and an artist growing up. I still paint, but not professionally anymore. Nowadays my writing is all in my songs.
10. I love reading about the history of ancient civilizations. The past is so thrilling to me. I practically live in the library. That reminds me...gotta return some books tomorrow.
11. My favorite movies are classic movies and arsty, indie films. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Roman Holiday are on my top ten.
12. I have found love, and I recognize that I am very lucky.
13. I am related to the first pirate hung on Lake Michigan. If you count the belief that pirating is inherited through blood, this makes me a pirate. Avast ye!
14. I play a lot of instruments, but I don't play them all on stage. There's not enough time to practice them all, so I focus on just a few. The rest are just for me to have fun with. The number is around 14, but honestly, when you're a musician, things are pretty easy to pick up. People seem to make a big deal out of it, but it's not actually that exciting.
15. I taught myself to play everything that I play by myself, except for the violin.
16. I eat frozen peas.
17. I faint when I'm very badly frightened--just pass out flat on the floor. And yes, it is incredibly mortifying. It's never as graceful as you see in the movies, and sometime's you're on a stepladder when it happens. Bad news all around.
18. Scary movies give me nightmares, and I've sworn them off.
19. I like to sew and shop for vintage clothes that I can alter. I want to make a quilt.
20. Someday I'd like to teach little children how to sing and play instruments.
21. I own two pairs of pants and a couple of shorts...I don't feel like myself without a dress or a skirt. I am very girly, and I love to be flirty and feminine. Being a girl is a blast and I enjoy every second of it.
22. I am a firm believer in treating everyone with respect and kindness, and because I'm such a happy-go-lucky person, I find that this comes easily to me. Sadly, sometimes this is also my biggest flaw, as a lot of the world doesn't agree with my outlook, and it can be disappointing to not recieve respect and kindness back. But it's worth it in the end...love is always worth it. Nothing in this world worth fighting for is easy.
23. I used to be a scottish highland dancer. I had beautiful plaid skirts and ghillies, and I miss it.
24. I absolutely love hearing what you guys have to say about my music. Talking to you is always the highlight of my day. It makes me feel so sentimental when I'm told my music has touched someone. I so deeply want to share my love of music with people...when I'm able to, I feel like I could fly.
25. I love to cook and bake, lately I've really been wanting to try out cupcakes. Cupcakes are amazing!

"Autumn Sky...has a lot of potential to be one of Northern California's break out folk artists as Joanna Newsome, Vetiver and Devendra Banhart have done in the past. More than likely the only reason Autumn has not been signed to a top indie label is geography."
- PerfSpot.com
"Whether crooning about a budding romance or a broken heart, Autumn Sky’s sparkling melodies resonate long after the final notes die down."< br />
- Catherine Foss, Submerge Magazine
"Then something unusual happens: as Sky begins to strum and sing, the audience chatter instantly stops. Adults, teens and toddlers are all held in rapt attention as Sky’s pitch-perfect voice fills the room. (Her) voice is on par with Joanna Newsome’s poetic warble, Chan Marshall without the baggage and Jolie Holland, minus the Vaudevillian rain clouds."
- Tony King, Midtown Monthly
"...her refreshing delivery, her husky alto and, yes, her whimsical lyrics – composed of the stuff of growing up – are inspiring loving loyalty from fans and patrons."
I saw you preforming at the downtown mall and just wanted to let you know you are amazing. You inspire me. You have an incredibly unique style and I admire you greatly. I love to sing and write songs too and I just wanted to know how you got so far and how you get your songs on itunes and play at the mall and stuff. I've been wanting to share my songs with people but i don't know how to get started.
Hey, I was over at Downtown Plaza Mall today and I saw you perform. You were excellent. I was standing right there watching you perform at one point. You were great, you sure drew a lot of people.
Hello Autumn Sky! I understand that our music is quite different from you pleasant acoustic pieces, but we've just uploaded two new songs on our page and we'd be delighted if you gave them a listen and let us know what you think.
I hope everything is going well with you, and we really hope to come out to your show this saturday.
Hey Autumn, I'm doing an online radio show on Saturdays and I'd love to play one of your songs on it, probably the version of Rockets called 'Rockets from the album' (the one that wasn't on the album :P). I just thought I'd check that its ok with you first. The show is soul-based, as a vibe rather than a genre, and I think you certainly fit into that category!
Considering time zones and the fact that its a Welsh university radio station, I'm not sure how easy it'd be for you to listen, but its on at 9am GMT on Saturdays on www.bay-radio.co.uk. You never know, the player on the website might work for you!
Hello! I saw you at the Starbucks open mic night last Friday in Folsom. You were amazing! I regret not meeting you personally but I'm so glad to hear somebody local with your kind of talent. Keep it up and come back soon :)
Haha. Glad to do so. If you ever decide to venture down south to the City of Angels, i'll be sure to be there singing and clapping along. Also, i read you're interested in art. If you ever have time to do nothing, perhaps you could check out some of my art instead. I've got some stuff at myspace.com/LAmonkart or my facebook. It's not as cheerful as your music, but it's something... And I'd like to hear what you think :) If you'd like that is...
Hello again. So i'm very upset because i accidentally "report to spam"ed your comment instead of saving it for when you were famous as i initially intended. So if you would be so kind as to send me another comment, i'd be much obliged and grateful... Thank you :)
And this may or may not simply be way for me to continue to hold a conversation with you. Something i was unable to do the night of your performance. hm...
Thanks so very much for your gracious add and a very good evening to you! You have wonderful music on your page and you have great music influences as well. Have a wonderful weekend, Wishing you and yours a Very Happy, Healthy, and Safe Thanksgiving, many well wishes, blessings, and inspiration to you, and much continued success to you. All best!
