About me: AVG: SURFACE MAGAZINE’S ONGOING AVANT GUARDIAN PROJECT
Conceived as a layered platform to both seek out and celebrate budding stars in commercial photography, the Avant Guardian project has grown into the premier promotional outlet for American photographers.
Over the past decade, Surface has provided numerous up-and-comers with the opportunity to bring their visions to life, pooling the resources of Surface’s network of studios, stylists and fashion clients to help these emerging talents craft fashion editorials and gain global recognition. Surface editors and a guest panel of internationally-renowned, industry elite select a handful of the most promising and distinctive photographers from well over a1000 submissions.
Winners of the competition will have their work featured in the Avant Guardian Portfolio, the foundation of Surface’s increasingly popular AVG issue. The most visually arresting images from the portfolio are showcased in an exhibition that launches in New York and then travels to Los Angeles and Miami. The AVG continues to emulate the successful balance that Surface has struck between conceptual artistry and commercial marketability.
2007 marks the 10th year anniversary of The Avant Guardian Project, enter today to become a part of the history of the Avant Guardian in its most exciting year to date.
