Music
I'm not responsible for the music being played at my events (cept for a few times at Grand Central), though on a personal level I am very passionate about VJ'ing to house music. I've cut visuals for Kaskade, Charles Feelgood, DJ AM, Andy C, Sub Focus, Optical, Jon Boesché, House of Bath, Amanda Lepore, Joe Nice, Aligning Minds, Kilowatts, and countless others.
Movies
I have a wide selection of movies I sample from in performance. Some of the popular movie sets I've put together incorporate very obscure b-rated films, very unsexy 80's porno mustache clips, Napoleon Dynamite, Dirty Dancing, Flash Dance, and a huge number of others.
Television
I also sample a lot of television clips in performance. I spend a great deal of time digging up horrible infomercial videos, crappy comercials, nostalgic tv sitcoms, vintage film, cable access videos, etc.
is the VJ moniker I've been using since 2006. Since then, I've collected 20,000+ video loops I mix to live DJ sets.
I can probably thank a mild case of OCD for giving me the patience to create all of that material.
When you see an AV CLUB performance, you are seeing hours of carefully collected material from 1000+ hours of VHS tapeviewing. Some of the gems I have converted into material are Fabio Fitness, Mr. T: Be Somebody, Chippendales: Tall Dark and Handsome, Swayze Dancing, 1990's Playgirl videos, Homeshopping network dancing, David Hassellhoff eating a cheeseburger, Olsen Twins, 80's Sleaze movies, 80's porno, Maury Povich maternity dances, etc.
The most common response to my visuals is, "WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS STUFF?!". I take pride in discovering worthless VHS tapes and recontexualizing them in a club environment and making it work.
In addition to the live stuff, I also edit music videos. I have an Amon Tobin video coming out later this year, I've had an experimental video showcased in the Kingston Museum in London, I've had a 12 minute glitch video mix played at the Big Chill Festival in Hereforeshire, England. I'll also cut themed DVD's to play in nightclubs across the country.

FAQ:
Does AV CLUB mix music?
No, AV CLUB collaborates with a DJ to create the music videos. On rare occasions I will mix the music as well.
Where is AV CLUB located?
AV CLUB is NOT a club. It is a VJ act.
How did you get into VJ'ing?
I was a senior at Salisbury University, majoring in Graphic Design, and I stumbled across a peculiar link on a website. It was an article about the "viditar". A midi device shaped like a guitar that controlled videos coming from a laptop. The guy who designed it was performing with it on stage with a band. I thought that was so innovative! I then continued to research it, and discovered the whole VJ culture. Baltimore and Washington DC had no VJ's, so it was completely new to me.
Back in high school, I had my own cable access television show, and I was working professionally in cable news, and corporate video, so I had the skills to edit videos. I used to play drums in bands as well. The thing that intrigued me most about VJ'ing though was that I didn't have to rely on other band members. I could book myself on my own, and be responsible for everything.
I immediately started collecting material, and by the time I graduated, I had enough to start pursuing gigs. My first gig was at Spargos in Manchester, Maryland. That went well, aside from a hillbilly threatening to punch me cause hip hop music was playing. So I moved on from that place, and got a thursday night residency at Fletchers in Fells Point. From there I rigourosly pursued promoters throughout Baltimore and Washington DC. Now I am here.
Can I help out with anything?
YES! I am always collecting weird VHS tapes to cut into material. if you have any VHS tapes to donate, I'd love it!!
Plus, if you're interested in being photographed, I am always building my portfolio. Contact me, and we can setup something that matches both of our objectives.
