Comprised of four Fanshawe College graduates, AVEDIS blends the angelic vocal talent of Donna Root, with catchy riffs and killer solos of lead guitarist Nolan St Martin. Neil Root and Scott Williams complete the rhythm section with solid drumbeats and tight bass lines. Together they make a collaborative effort towards writing, creating a unique blend of melodic, alternative, rock songs.
The band was established in 2003 with the union of Nolan, Neil and Donna. The name AVEDIS (Armenian for “brings good news”) was chosen because the band felt strongly that this was something they could put behind their music. Over the course of several years the band had shuffled through numerous bass players, but finally welcomed Scott Williams in November of 2007.
Since finalizing the band members, AVEDIS has spent the last year writing original songs and playing local venues. July 2008 was a landmark month for the band featuring an interview and their first appearance on the I.R.I.S. radio show that aired on CJIQ FM in Kitchener, Ontario.
With a sound unique to them, AVEDIS continues to write music full of passion and emotion. In Winter 2009, Nolan St. Martin had to part ways with the band. AVEDIS re-connected with guitarist Noel Burgon and invited him to take the helm of Rhythm Guitar. In Spring of 2009, they completed the roster, by welcoming Brian Ashland into the band as Lead Guitarist. They are now in the logistical and writing/pre - production phase of their 1st album.
