"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western spiral arm of the galaxy lies a small, unregarded yellow sun.
Orbiting this, at a distance of roughly ninety million miles, is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet - whose ape descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.
This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd, because on the whole, it wasn't the small green pieces of paper which were unhappy.
And so the problem remained, and lots of the people were mean, and most of them were miserable - even the ones with digital watches.
Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake coming down from the trees in the first place. And some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have left the oceans.
And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, a girl sitting on her own in a small cafe in Rickmansworth suddenly realised what it was that had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no-one would have to get nailed to anything.
Sadly, however, before she could get to a phone to tell anyone, the Earth was unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass and so the idea was lost forever."
". . . Imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, 'This is an interesting world I find myself in - an interesting hole I find myself in - fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well. It must have been made to have me in it!' This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and as, gradually, the puddle gets smaller and smaller, it's still frantically hanging on to the notion that everything's going to be alright, because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it; so the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise. I think this may be something we need to be on the watch out for."
Everything that is wrong in this world can be pretty much gleaned from the above story about the puddle - and from how little attention is paid to this simple little concept. We are, after all, a species so ridiculously primitive that it still thinks that digital watches are a pretty neat idea ....
Conclusion? Our obsession with progress with technology masks a lack in our moral progress. And that as human beings we are incredibly complacent & surprisingly irrational about our very existence.
Example: If everyone in the world was to consume the same amount of energy & resources to match the lifestyle of the UK population, we'd need 3 PLANETS WORTH OF RESOURCES. We only have ONE PLANET. That planet is called EARTH. This tells us that we are probably nearing a sustainable planetary population limit & that things aren't exactly been shared out particularly fairly. Sorry to spell it out, but it does appear that some people have a bit of trouble remembering that.
Conclusion of the conclusion? The human race is fucked.
(And I don't take the slightest bit of pleasure in announcing this prognosis of mine. Let's just hope that there's enough good people in this world doing good things to prove me wrong, eh? A large part of me still remains optimistic though. Part of me has to for my own sanity. There is always hope.)*****
Music-loving, Haagen-Daas-eating kinda guy really. I'm a bit scatty at times; however, this masks a razor-sharp wit. More like a blunted razor, actually.
Known to bounce around a lot for no reason. Love all things surreal and often trying to connect concepts, objects, ideas or events that seem to have no connection. In other words, a few cans short of a six-pack...
Yeah, I'm really whacky me. I open packets of crisps and cartons of milk from the wrong end. Little acts of rebellion like that.
I am also trying to be a good person in a world full of alcohol-obsessed, pious, materialistic, insensitive, zealous, intolerant, pompous, loudmouth, gas-guzzling, vain, wasteful, violent and greedy idiots who can barely see past their own wallet, let alone how they might be affecting anyone other than themselves. So don't contact me if you're one of these fools (or "Oxygen Thieves" as I like to call them).
After all that, let me welcome you with open arms ... little acts of kindness go a long way.
Who I'd like to meet: The gorgeous Melissa Porter. And the equally mellifluous Gemma Hayes. Roisin Murphy from Moloko, as she's one heck of a cool dudette.
Please be reassured that if I do add you, or ask to add you, I do so for a positive reason. Cheers all! Robin xx
I've just spent the day relaxing and doing normal Sunday stuff I guess! Watching DVDs, tidying up and all that. Nothing exciting. Though I did go to a comedy club last night which was brilliant!

Don't blame you really. It's a little chilly for random naked house prowling! Best save that for the summer!
Fortunately I'm happy in my job and just about managing to keep hold of it at the moment despite company redundancies! I'm sure you'll find something if you keep trying. I've done the job changing thing 3 times in the last 2 years so i know your pain!
Never done the speed dating thing. It never bothered me being single, which I know is rare, but I actually managed to find a lovely guy (NOT an 'oxygen thief' like my previous boyfriends!LOL) who will actually tolerate me well enough to call me his girlfriend in August last year, so hopefully I'll keep hold of him! These things generally happen when you least expect them though. The woman of your dreams is out there somewhere I am sure sweetie!
So yes, 2009 so far is really good *touches wood* and it's still young! Plenty of time for you to get those mundane things done successfully! ;-)
4pm on August 6th, Kevin Milburn, Director of the Nationwide Mercury Prize will be answering your questions about this year's short-list at http://chat. gigwise. com So, if your favorite album of the past 12 months has been missed off or if you want to know how the finalists are chosen this is your chance.
You can also vote on the poll on our page to let us know who you think should win!
Hello! I do watch Springwatch, even though I have to shut my eyes sometimes when the birds are up to their homicidal/infanticidal shenanigans :0 No, not really, that's nature for you, love it or leave it! I'll check it out tonight definitely.
Things are going pretty well with the music, thank you :) Getting paying gigs and getting about a bit, which is nice! We do have a couple of songs up on a radio's website if you fancy supporting us a bit please - www. xfmuploaded. co. uk/smith, just give it a listen, register and vote if you see fit!
If you're on Springwatch you should put it up on youtube and MySpace, I'll link to it!
Howdy thanks for the friendship. Hope you're having a nice day.
