About me:

MySpace Glitters

My name is Wendy C. Allen. I am a writer, editor, publisher, artist, doll maker, animal rights activist, and fashion designer. I am sometimes known as EelKat, my personal profile here on MySpace is under that name, if you want to learn more about me it's on the top friends list below.

I write mostly in the Gothic, Horror, and Science Fiction genres. My works include The Twighlight Manor series, it's spin-offs: The Planet Ptarmagin series, and The Crystonite Chronicles. Some of my other writing habits include children’s stories, The Adventures of Pink Frog (series), comic books, and the dark retellings of classic folk lore & fairy tales, known as EelKat's Twisted Tales.

I am the owner of The Twighlight Manor Press, which has it's own profile; to read more about that, you can find it on this top friends list.

I am the creator, designer, builder, and head administrator of A Writer's Desk, an online forum/message board for fiction writers, and this is it's profile page here on MySpace.

A Writer's Desk began on April 5, 2006 as my personal sounding board for my latest book: "Tales From A Writer's Desk". At that time public posting and membership was not allowed, because the forum was not originally intended to be a public forum. However, as time went by people began to request membership and slowly but surely A Writer's Desk began to change from my personal sounding board to a public writer's forum. As of today we have:

    Frequently Asked Questions:

What is A Writer's Desk and why should I join?

The basic theory behind A Writer's Desk, is writers helping writers. If you want to ask for writing help, just start a new thread and ask. If you want to offer writing help, go ahead and offer it. Just want to talk about how you cure your writer's block? Go ahead. Need to rant about your evil editor's latest rejection slip, you can do that too.
Basicly it's just a place where writers can chat about writing.

      What's it gonna cost me?

Not a penny. Membership is 100% totally free.

Do I have to be a published writer to join?

Nope. Anyone can join. There are no requirements other than you be nice to everyone. Of course it will help you if you had an interest in writing or reading or books, because that's pretty much all anyone talks about over there.

What's with all the trees and birds and stuff? I feel like I'm in a forest.

I do most of my writing long-hand while sitting in the garden or walking through the forest. Nature inspires much of my own writing. Greenery trees, birds, and such invite a peaceful atmosphere and a safe haven where I can sit back, relax, and write without interuption. Thus I choose it for the theme of my web site when I first started building it, so that I could still be surrounded by trees and nature even though I was indoors typeing on the computer.

Everyone who enjoys writing fiction is welcomed to join (membership is free). We do have a few rules though.

      1) A Writer's Desk is hosted by Proboards.com, and I must enforce the rules they laid down in their Terms of Service. These are posted on the forum's front page, please read them before joining. Basicly they boil down to: You must be 13 or older to join; all conversations must be posted in English and English only; no spam; no porn; no flaming; all posts made to the forum must be of a PG-13 or less in nature. When you sign up, you are taken to their (Proboards.com) premade form, which requires you to read and agree to their terms of service rules. I have no control over this part of A Writer's Desk.

      2) Shortly after I opened A Writer's Desk to public access we were hit by the ever dreaded "China Spam Bot", that notorious spambot that is known for wrecking havoc and total destruction to every website whose path it crosses. This required several months of rehauling, recodeing, rewriting java script, and rebuilding the forum. In order to avoid this happening again, we now actomaticly delete all members who post spam and report their ISP's. We treat spam very seriously.

While every attempt is made to monitor the content of The Twighlight Manor Forums, we cannot and do not guarantee the appropriateness of all content.

Messages that harass, abuse or threaten other members; have obscene or otherwise objectionable content; have spam, commercial or advertising content or links will be removed and may result in the loss of your membership. Please do not post any private information unless you want it to be available publicly. ISP addresses are recorded for all posters, even non-member guests. This is a public message board, never assume that you are completely anonymous and cannot be identified by your posts. You can help us strive for member safety, by not posting private information.

Please help us provide a safe environment by reporting all Terms of Service violations. If another member is harassing you please report it to the administrator or one of the moderators.

Who I'd like to meet:

WHY DID I SEND YOU A FRIEND REQUEST?:

Because I thought you sounded like someone I'd like to network with. By that I mean you sounded like (judging from your profile page, that is; or from your comments on one of the groups here on MySpace) someone I would like to meet.

I read a lot of the MySpace Group forums (though I only post on rare occasions). I find most of the folks I send friends requests to, through the MySpace Groups, so most likly that's where I found you.

I also search for new friends using the keywords: writer, author, children's writer, sci-fi author, animal rescue, bobcat, fantasy author, and other such keywords. If you aren't on groups, than that's how I found you.

The other way I might have found you, is if you were on the top friends list of someone already on my friends list, and I checked out your profile that way.

If you got a friend request from me, than you can be certain that I've already read your profile, cause I never send out a request until after I've read the profile. Of the profiles I read, only about 1 in every 10 or 20 actually gets a friend request from me, cause I only send requests to profiles that I would consider to be family friendly. The reason for this, is because A Writer's Desk, is basicly run by me and my three teenage brothers; and a large magority of our current members are between the ages of 13 - 16. We have a high ratio of teen/youth members and we try to keep our content to a PG-13 level on the forum for that reason. In view of that, we also strive to keep our MySpace friends list on a family friendly level as well.

WHO I WOULD LIKE TO MEET:

Authors, writers, readers, editors, artists, publishers, magazines, books, agents, reviewers, and other people in the publishing industry who like to read, write, and/or create gothic, horror, fantasy, science fiction, adventure, myserty, romance, gothic romance, comic books, children's books, and all other genres.

People who love faeries, phookas, mermaids, unicorns, fairy tale princesses, wizards, and dark fantasy.

Anyone who is creative: writers, artists, fashion designers, doll makers, etc.

I Do Not Want to Meet:

hmmmm.... the strange friend requests I've been getting requires me to add this final notice to my profile:

I check the profiles of the requests I get, and while most everyone who requsets to be added to my list gets approved, I do have a few guidelines that well get your profile denied from my friends list:

    1) No Porn... any profiles with porn get zapped quicker than anything else (and reported, because porn is not allowed on MySpace.) If your profile is set to private due to mature/adult content (yes, MySpace sends a message with your request, telling me that that is the reason it is set to private), it'll be denied.

    2) No spam... this meaning "take this survy and make millions!" type of profiles. (these are also reported as these are also not allowed on MySpace). Yes I'd love to make millions. No, I want to do it legally, thank you. I dream of starting my own business, not spamming the hell out of people. Sorry.

    3) If you are linking back to porn or spam, I won't report you, but I will deny you.

4.) If you are on my friends list and than suddenly you aren't anymore, ask yourself this: how many comments/IMs/emails did you send me asking me to take a survy to make millions? If the answer was more than one, than, yep, I blocked you and reported you. One such comment from you is ok, but 5 or 6 each and every day is getting pretty annoying, esp when 10 or 20 people are each sending 4 or 5 a day. Not smart on your part. :(

Don't waste my time, I hate having to spend each day deleting spammy comments. If you are gonna send me spam, you should at least have to curtacy to send me the kind I can feed to my cats. Topie loves canned Spam, he'll take lots of donations of it.

5.) I'm an animal rights activist, if your profile promoted hunting, trapping, or otherwise harming and maiming animals, than that's why you were denied.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Hello! Wishing you a fun-filled Halloween with some of my favorite ‘made you jump’ movies below. I don’t like blood soaked horror films but prefer those that sneak up on you with a supernatural twist or the truly scary – situations that could actually happen. Nothing scarier than reality! And no, I’m not talking about the upcoming election, LOL! What are your favorite Halloween movies? (Lori ~ The Moxie Girl) :-)

National Novel Writing Month is just around the corner! YAY! I've signed up for my 4th year in a row: 50,000 words in 30 days, here I come!

Man Holding a Pen in His Right Hand, circa 1830-40 (Detail)

I'm planning to do a fantasy this year. Looking into the past history of Planet Crystonia this time around. No idea where it'll take me, but aiming for 100k instead of 50k to beat last year's 75k.

Lake Mcdonald, Glacier National Park, Montana

Will you be entering the contest this year?
